Meet the Team: Bryana Perkins

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at USFSP chapter.
Bryana Perkins, a Mass Communications senior graduating in August 2015, will soon depart ways with Her Campus USFSP. Bryana has been a member for over a year and currently holds the position of Treasurer. As President/Editor-in-Chief of HCUSFSP and as the rest of members of our organization can agree with, we can surely say Bryana has been a great joy to work with. Her bubbly and friendly personality are always present and her professionalism have allowed us to get things done. Let’s not forget her talent with writing with big variety, ranging from campus news, her interviewing abilities and her creativity with Blogs. Stick around to get to know a little bit more about the soon-to-be USFSP alumni.

What are your goals once you graduate?

Once I graduate I hope to get a paid internship with a newspaper or magazine of some kind. I hope to do this for a year to build my experience, while I research the institution where I will get my graduate degree,.

Why did you get involved with Her Campus?

A friend of mine told me about the club and I chose to get involved for the writing opportunity, one that I could add to my resume.

What is one thing (not academics) that college has taught you?

One thing that I have learned that college has taught me, is to take chances. First coming to the USFSP campus as a shy transfer student I kept to myself for the most part. Really wanting to get to know people I began attending events. In time I got a job on campus in the Student Success Center, took on the role as an on- campus Bible Study leader and began contributing for the school newspaper (The Crow’s Nest) and Her Campus where I am the Treasurer.

What do you want to do with your degree?

Ideally I would like to write for a newspaper where I would get the opportunity to write community news stories.

Where do you see yourself in 5 and 10 years?

In five years I see myself having written for some publication for some time, finished grad school and begun to form my non-profit organization, to help fund families supporting a loved one with cancer. In 10 years I hope to have my non-profit up and running using my education and connections to help as many people as I can.

If you could choose an all expense paid trip, where would it be?

I think if I had a free trip anywhere I would go to Indonesia. I was recently searching images of  the land and it has some beautiful beaches.

Single or taken?

Single

Where were you born?

I was born in Philadelphia Pennsylvania.

What is your hometown?

Currently, my hometown is Spring Hill. Because not many people know where that is I usually say, near the Weeki Wachee Park where the Mermaids are.

Number one advise to incoming freshman?

I know it has been said by many people, but the advice I would give is get involved. It may seem, for some, a daunting concept, but it is a great way to acquire skills that you probably will not get in the classroom. It is also a good way to make friends.
