This week’s Campus Celebrity is Cynthia Wyre! She is USFSP’s first Homecoming Queen, crowned just last Tuesday.

Why did you decide to run for Homecoming Court?

I decided to run for Homecoming because I wanted to see if I had a chance to represent the school. It has been a dream of mine since I was a freshman in high school.

What did you have to do to run?

There was a form on Orgsync as well as an interview process.

What did you do to campaign for votes?

I posted two pictures on Facebook and chalked the school sidewalk.

How did you feel onstage when they announced your name for Homecoming Queen?

I honestly thought that they had said one of the other candidates, so I didn’t even realize that it was me and the person next to me had to tell me that I had won. After that I was in shock and it took a little while to settle in.

What was your favorite part of Homecoming week?

My favorite part has always been the Homecoming Ball, but this year the concert was amazing. Big Sean was live.

What does being USFSP’s Homecoming Queen mean as the year goes on? Is there more to it than just the Homecoming Week celebrations?

So far it’s just been the Homecoming celebrations, but since it is the 50th Anniversary and we’re the first official Homecoming King and Queen, they may ask us to come to some of those events throughout the year.

What advice would you give to someone who would like to run next year?

Talk to people in the Reef. Don’t just tell people to vote for you, explain to them why you should be the one representing the school.

What does being Homecoming Queen mean to you?

Being Homecoming Queen honestly means being a face of the school, being recognizable, and showing the world how awesome USFSP is and embodying that.
