Campus Celebrity: Alana Long

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at USFSP chapter.

Ladies and Gentlemen, this is a very special edition of Campus Celebrity. It gives me great honor to say that Alana Long, our very own USFSP Her Campus President, is this week’s Campus Celebrity. Alana is smart, beautiful, driven, fashionable, an amazing leader, a kind soul, and so much more. Alana is an amazing President and she works so hard to make sure USFSP Her Campus is perfect for all of you. I can’t think of someone who deserves this title more than her.

1.      What year are you (freshman, sophomore, junior, senior)?

I am currently a junior.

2.      What’s your major?

My major is mass communications and a minor in art history.

3.      Why did you decide to go to USFSP?

I decided to go here because it was a public school that was small enough for the perfect class size. I had previously applied to multiple private schools, but this just seemed like the perfect fit. It was also the perfect distance away from home, where it was still easy to see my family.

4.      What’s your favorite thing to do on campus?

My favorite thing to do on campus is to sit by the water and do homework. It makes the stress of school just go away. I also love it when the dolphins come right up by the seawall to say hi.

5.      What’s it like being the President/editor-in-chief of USFSP Her Campus?  Why did you decide to be President?

It is a lot of responsibility to manage a team of writers and editors, but the group we have makes it all worth it. I decided to become president because I believed it was the next step in my journey with this club. Throughout my three years in the club, I had previously been a writer, editor, and the social media chair. I wanted to take the next step and learn what is was like to be in charge of running the magazine. This is a great outlet for college writers and budding journalists to learn what is like writing for a real publication. It has been a challenge but I have enjoyed every minute of it!

6.      What’s it like having your own blog? Why did you decide on having a blog and why specifically a fashion blog?

I love having my own blog because it provides me with the perfect outlet for expressing my thoughts and opinions. I decided to start my own blog back in high school when I learned how much I loved to write. My blog is called Chronicles of a Fashion Mad Diva and it talks about anything related to fashion or style. This is perfect for me because it combines my two loves, fashion and writing.

7.  Any exciting plans over the Thanksgiving break?

I will be performing with the Macy’s Great American Marching Band in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. It is a marching band that is comprised of students from all 50 states. This is really exciting for me because I will actually be returning this year as an alumni because I marched in high school in 2012. My main instrument is the trumpet, but I also dance so I decided to audition for their dance team. When I first made it into the band I was super excited but that can’t compare to how I feel now I get to go back!

8.  What’s your favorite book and movie?

My favorite book is Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. I love the introduction of all the new characters to the series in this book. My favorite movie is The Parent Trap. I seriously know every word. People hate watching it with me because of that.

9.  What’s something on your bucket list?

I would love to spend a night in a castle in Ireland. It’s a magical place you know?

10.  What’s your favorite quote?

My favorite quote is “You’ve gotta dance like there’s nobody watching, Love like you’ll never be hurt, Sing like there’s nobody listening, And live like it’s heaven on earth.” – William W. Purkey

11.  Where do you see yourself in 10 years? What do you aspire to become?

In 10 years I see myself as a media specialist/blogger/social media manager of a prominent company. I aspire to become a well-traveled and well educated writer. By that time, hopefully I will be starting a family.

12.  Anything else you would like the student body to know?

Just that I am having a great time running this magazine and I hope everyone enjoys it!

HCXOXO,

Kelli Carmack

Hi, I'm Kelli Carmack! I am a senior Mass Communications Major at USFSP with a minor in Art History. I'm currently the Co-President of Her Campus at USFSP, a leadership role I hold dear to my heart. I have some pretty big dreams for myself. I plan on getting into the broadcast journalism and/or entertainment field. I hope to one day be the next Barbara Walters, sitting down with prominent people and asking them those hard-hitting questions. While I'm not busy focusing on my career goals, I enjoy going to the beach, painting and reading!
A Mass Communications Major with a passion for inspiring others.
