Rainy Day Style Done Right

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at USF chapter.

As Florida girls, we know that for four months of the year, it rains nearly every single day. With rain like that, we better be prepared to dress for the occasion.

Justine Figueroa, our very own Her Campus USF President, knows exactly how to dress for the dreary rain. She expertly blends a mix of trends to come up with a cute, rain-friendly ensemble.

First and foremost, take a look at that magenta raincoat that she borrowed from her roommate Katheryn (who also happens to be Her Campus USF’s Director of Philanthropy)! Katheryn bought the jacket at Banana Republic. Not only does the jacket keep her safe from the rain, the bright color deals a serious blow to the rainy weather’s ugly gray.

Justine is perfectly in vogue with her mint-colored pants from Forever 21(check out our Minty Fresh Fashion style blog from a few week ago for more info on this trend). Combining the mint with the magenta gives the outfit a unique twist.

She protected her feet and her cute pants with a pair of brown lace-up boots from Target. The more grungy style of the boots is a perfect complement to the rest of the outfit, which is more feminine.

The comfy cream-colored shirt, from Forever 21, is made from a thin material so that, even while wearing a jacket, Justine can keep cool in the Florida humidity.

She accented the high neckline of the shirt with a long gold necklace, from Charming Charlie, that really coordinates with the jacket’s gold buttons.

Once I carried a small, tote umbrella in the rain only to find that the teeny umbrella allowed my big backpack (and my books) to get soaked. Justine completely avoided this problem by carrying a large, clear umbrella that would match any outfit.

Justine looks cute, dry and comfortable in her perfect rainy weather outfit!

Hey there! My name is Samantha Stern and I'm a graduating senior of mass communication with a concentration on magazine journalism at the University of South Florida. I've been writing for Her Campus USF since January 2013 and this semester I was appointed editor-in-chief of the online publication. Life is a stressful thing and I want to provide a means of escape and self- improvement for young women, as well as for myself, by writing fun, engaging and useful content accessible anytime and anywhere via the internet. My ultimate goal is to empower women in their 20's. Women are hungry for everyday life advice. They crave tips for achieving the ideal in money, intelligence, beauty, fashion, health and lifestyle. I will satiate their informational appetite and, more importantly, help them become their outright best by writing fun and practical content relevant to the modern 20-something.When I'm not writing you can find me reading magazines (duh!) and books, taking long, hot baths and exploring local haunts with friends and family.Feel free to follow we on Twitter @samantha__stern or check out my resume and portfolio by clicking here.
