Connor Storch, Ad Club President

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at USF chapter.

Name: Connor StorchCelebrity Status: President of the USF Advertising Club

Meet Connor Storch, a senior at the University of South Florida who is making big moves in the fast-paced world of advertising. As president of the USF Advertising Club, he helps students make the most out of their college careers. If he had an advertisement it would read, “The Boy Next Door.”

Storch, a 21-year-old advertising major and leadership studies minor, grew up in Michigan but eventually knew he would move on ward. Upon joining his parents in their move to Florida, it was fate to join the USF community. Also – his mom graduated from USF 30 years ago!

Storch remembers the exact moment he had to choose his major as a transfer student; He saw advertising and thought “Woah, that sounds cool.” “I am a big believer in fate, and advertising ended up being the perfect major for me because it incorporates business and art,” said Storch. He soon after took on the Leadership Studies minor because he loves how interactive and fun the classes are.

What he loves the most about being the president of Ad club is meeting so many people. He said, “I am able to connect with students who are just starting in the advertising major and I am able to network with graduates and industry professionals.” Storch emphasized that Ad Club is really for anyone who wants to make the most our of their college career and that “…everyone should know how to brand themselves, everybody should know how to have a successful interview, and most importantly we should all be getting to know each other.”

His other work includes working at an ad agency in downtown Tampa called Sparxoo, “but I call it Sparxy, or The Xoo, depending on how busy we are,” he said.  “I am in charge of all the social media, which means monitoring the Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. of every single brand we work with. It’s actually pretty awesome, so I really do love my job.”

Outside of school, work and his presidential role, Storch takes moments to relax- his ideal relaxations include a date at a coffee shop, a weekend trip to Miami, or a bubble bath and a good book. Connor told us that he is honestly always working -and he loves that. To stay fueled, he always has a protein bar in his bag and to relax, he loves tea!

As a USF student, his proudest moment was when he was awarded the John & Jerry Alexander Scholarship at the 2013 Mass Communications Banquet – the highest Advertising scholarship! His future goals include having his own brand – directing and producing everything from art, music, film, fashion and more. Eventually, he looks forward to finding his soul mate, falling in love, and one day starting a family.

To any rising leaders or students who want to be more involved, Connor has this advice: “Start with yourself. Lead yourself by waking up and actually going to class.  Talk to the person next to you in line at Starbucks. Take out your earphones and listen to the world around you.  Be present and be prepared.
