Back in May, Olivia Rodrigo released her debut album, SOUR. You already know I was all over it. I became a fan of Olivia back when the first season of High School Musical: The Musical – The Series came out. Since then, I have been keeping up to date on her in hopes that she will finally release music. My dreams finally came true! In the past I have ranked Taylor Swift albums so I feel like it is only right to do the same to Olivia’s debut. Without further ado, here are my top five favorite songs from SOUR!

5. “drivers license”

I know it’s basic but there is just something about this song that really hits me in the feels. Also, I loved this song ever since she posted a snippet of it back in the day when she had no plans of making an album. I loved it so much that I actually learned how to play it on the piano. So you can imagine how excited I was when I found out “driver’s license” was going to be the lead single. Also, the bridge in this song is just too good. You can’t not like it!

Favorite Lyric: “I kinda feel sorry for them ‘cause they’ll never know you the way that I do”

4. “happier

I feel like this song is so relatable to many of us. Sometimes it’s hard to let go of someone even though you want what’s best for them. It’s like you’re at war with your heart. This song perfectly captures that feeling of seeing an ex with another girl and you know they deserve to have something great but at the same time, you can’t help your own feelings. Overall, this is such a beautiful song.

Favorite Lyric: “And now I’m pickin’ her apart, like cuttin’ her down will make you miss my wretched heart. But she’s beautiful, she looks kind, she probably gives you butterflies.”

3. “1 step forward, 3 steps back”

Oh my goodness I love this song! Olivia sampled the piano from Taylor Swift’s song, “New Year’s Day”. That is one of my favorite songs from reputation so you already know I immediately fell in love with Olivia’s song. Also, this song is such a tear-jerker. I mean she really knows how to capture what it is like to be stuck in the clutches of a toxic relationship.

Favorite Lyrics: “I’m the love of your life until I make you mad” and “I’d leave you but the rollercoaster’s all I’ve ever had.”

2. “jealousy, jealousy

When I tell you I am obsessed with this song, I mean it. I’m pretty sure replaying this song is what led me to become one of Olivia’s top fans on Spotify. Also, this song perfectly describes the show Cruel Summer on Freeform so I love it even more. I feel like Olivia just gets it. She understands completely what it’s like living in the digital age where social media is flooded with perfect influencers with perfect outfits and perfect lives. Sometimes it’s hard to remember that what we see online isn’t reality and we should learn to love ourselves and our lives because they are perfect in their own way. Plus the bridge on this song goes so hard.

Favorite Lyric: “Got a pretty face, a pretty boyfriend, too. I wanna be you so bad and I don’t even know you”

1. “traitor”

I am a sucker for sad ballads. This song is by far the most heartbreaking on the album. It’s like your heart actually hurts for her. The first time I heard it I was so shocked to hear her call her ex a traitor and say he betrayed her but now all I have to say is “go off miss Olivia” Also, the way she goes up in pitch and sustains the last “traitor” gives me chills. It’s just too good. I am obsessed.

Favorite Lyric: “When she’s sleeping in the bed we, don’t you dare forget about the way you betrayed me.”
