13 Stages of Going to a Greek Formal

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at URI chapter.

It’s that time of year again, Greeks! It’s time to grab a date, splurge on a new dress and matching shoes, and post an Instagram with the caption: “We clean up well.” You guessed it; it’s formal time. Formal can be one of the best nights of your life…. Or, the most traumatizing. Here are the stages of attending formal every formal-goer knows all too well:

1. Finding out the date of your formal.

That amazing feeling you get when your chapter announces when and where your formal will take place = pure excitement!

2. Thinking you have plenty of time to plan.

“It’s only March and formal is not until the end of April? Psh, I got this.”

3. Buying the perfect dress.

After shopping at dozens of stores for an endless amount of hours, you have finally settled on the perfect dress.

4. Finding out it’s a themed formal.

“Wait, what? My dress will never work for this…”

5. Scoping out potential dates.

Now that you know what color your dress is, you have to find a man who can rock that color, too. And cue the asking every single one of your friends if they know someone who could be your date while desperately trying to not look desperate.

6. Realizing formal is only a week away.

If you’re that person who waits until the last minute to find a date and a dress, you can relate.

7. Preparing for the night ahead.

Dress? Check. Date? Check. Mental stability? Questionable.

8. Getting ready.

Time to play dress up! Put those high heels on and look your best, because if anything goes wrong, you know you’ll still look great while it’s happening.

9. BUS TRIP!

This is the part of the night you actually pray to be successful. Good luck to all…

10. Arriving at the venue.

Walking into the venue completely owning it.

11. Eating delicious food.

The best thing about having a formal venue: THE FOOD.

12. Dancing the night away.

The reason we came to formal. Dance with your sisters, your date, and have the time of your life.

13. Ending the night.

You did it; you conquered the night. You looked flawless, you danced and you spent an incredible evening with the best people you know. At the end of the night, you can’t wait to do it all again next year!
