The Job Fair is here (and with it all the hot engineers in a suit walking arround campus). While it might be pretty simple for the guys to know what to wear for these type of event, for us women, it is always a bit more complicated. We have too many options and too many opinions, the struggle is real. You may already have plenty of ideas of what to wear, but here are some not-so obvious tips on what NOT to wear for the Job Fair:

1. White pants

They work out perfect for dates, or for a night out, but for a prospect job interview, not so much. They may be too casual for the ocasion.

2. The mini skirt

How short is too short? Anything above 3/4 inch your knees (at least). Just above the knee lenght is ideal.

Instead:

3. Tights

If you follow the knee-lenght rule you shoouldn’t be needing tights (is 90 degrees outside come on). If you do, make sure they are beige, only Blair Waldorf can pull off color tights.

4. The distracting printed pattern

It is not the best way to stand out. You may mix and match and use printed top or bottom, yet make sure the pattern is easy on the view and not distracting at all.

Instead:

5. The stripper heels

For starters, they are SUPER uncomfortable for that much walking, and a pinguin runway is not the best way to make a good first impression. Your shoes should not be the focus of attention, you should, therefore go with something more simple and classy, either a cute pair of flats or the more traditional business heels.

Instead:

6. The plunging anything

Your only commandment for business professional reusmes in: keep it simple. A plunging neckless, huge earings or too many bracalets are not the accesories you are aiming for.

Instead:

7. The big hair

Seriously, the George Washington and Donald Trump hair style is just FORBIDDEN. Keep it sleek and look groomed without over doing it.

Instead:  8. The “Ivy Queen” manicure

Make sure to have nails instead of claws when you meet your possible future boss. A classic french, or a neutral shelack will be just fine. Remember, keep it clean.

Instead:

9. Clown face makeup

The only two reasons you are wearing makeup are: to cover any imperfections and to light up your best features. That’s it, so keep it minimal. Also, remember that it is day time, so be smooth on the eyes and the lips, a gloss will suffice.

Instead:

10. Anything uncomfortable

Whether you can’t walk with those heels, or despite everybody’s positive feedback you still hate that dress, don’t wear it. This is your moment to show what you have to give, and in order to do so you need to feel as confortable and confident as you can. Choose outfits than enchance your beauty without shading the rest of you, because what matters the most is what you can do at the job, and not how you can look at it. Good luck Collegiates!
