On Thursday, October 23 our campus was bustling with positive energy, the pink wave had arrived!  The support against breast cancer was amazingly witnessed as Mayagüez’s community arrived to participate on Sigue Mis Pasos.

This walk for a cause is a recurring activity on el recinto. The UPRM community had marched last year on La Marcha Rosada, an initiative that has captivated hundreds of supporters and raised $20,000 to donate to the American Cancer Society.

Under a blazing sun, Dr. Gladys González offered a few words of solidarity before the march began. “Today is the day we honor all the warriors that have fallen because of this sickness and to those family members who have always been there for the survivors.”

Economical crises were not enough to diminish the support from Mayagüez’s community as a check for $38,000 was given to Juan Carlos Mejías, a representative of the American Cancer Society.

Our University’s Abanderadas preceded the pink multitude, followed by La Banda Colegial, who were also sporting the characteristic pink t-shirt of the activity. The diverse crowd consisted of students, survivors, family members and local highscholers.

The march parted from the Josefina Torres Torres Building and culminated on the old field track were the community took another chance to show everyone the orgullo colegial
