Silkia Colon Soto started making artisan soap and body products in 2011. She worked as a Forest Biologist for 18 years, but found it difficult to make ends meet. As a mother of two from Caguas, Puerto Rico, she found a need to reinvent herself in order to economically support her family as well as a need for eco-friendly and sustainable products. That’s when she decided to start Tresojas, her business where she handcrafts soaps, lotions, oils and many more body care products that are made with 100% natural products and with different health benefits.
The name Tresojas means “three leaves” in Spanish, but the name is spelled without the “h”. When I asked Colon why she chose to do it his way she told me it was so people would ask her about it!

I had the pleasure of personally meeting the artisan and bought some of her products. Among them was a peppermint soap, which she recommended to ease my back pain due to my scoliosis and a rose clay soap for my acne. She is able to provide a remedy for quite a few ailments if you just ask and her knowledge of the benefits of many plants, types of clay, and oils is astounding.
Not only is Silkia Colon Soto a Puerto Rican artisan, she is a female entrepreneur who has started her own line of body care products. She is something that we should be seeing more of as well as an inspiration for young female entrepreneurs everywhere.
