From Italy with Love: Valentine Edition

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UPRM chapter.

Ever seen these two lovebirds next to each other’s classrooms at Ch-227 and Ch-226? Or maybe you’ve been fortunate enough to be in one of their classes and have gotten to know their secrets to staying in love. This Italian couple has been the example of true love since 1976 and seems to continue for the years to come.

Meet “il Professor Fabio Farsi e la Professoressa Roberta Orlandini”, the Grosseto born Italian professors that give meaning to the “high school sweet heart” concept, as they share some of their secrets to all the couple out there this Valentine’s week. When Her Campus UPRM sat down with Fabio and Roberta, we asked about when they first met; to which they answered with a chuckle, “in 1976 at «il Liceo Classico»” but they let us know  it wasn’t until about two years later that they began to go out.  Their love is much like a book love story indeed; they lived in the province of Florence and got their university degrees there, but then came the most important moment in their lives. “The most memorable experience we’ve had was leaving Italy and moving to a whole different country”, the couple expressed to HCUPRM. As they looked back to the memory they continue telling us “from that moment, our dream became real”. It was then that “being alone, just the two of us, we had to count on each other”, which evidently made their relationship grow stronger.

Living together is not the same thing as working together, so HCUPRM asked Prof. Orlandini and Prof. Farsi what it is like working with each other; to the worst part of working together, Roberta laughed saying “Fabio always wants to change the textbook” and Fabio said: “we talk about the same thing, the work is never done”. But there is definitely more of an upside to working together, as they expressed: “We work and cooperate trying to improve the courses; also, vacations are at the same time.”  Don’t be fooled by their busy schedules, this couple still finds ways to keep their relationship alive; they share a number of hobbies together like: playing tennis, watching movies, traveling, going to concerts, cooking and eating out. As this couple is soon to be celebrating their 39th anniversary, HCUPRM asked for any advice Fabio and Roberta had for all the couples out there on maintaining a healthy long-lasting relationship; to which their answer was “share a common dream, and have fun together.”

HCUPRM: What do you love most about each other?

Roberta: His sense of humor.

Fabio: Her energy and passion for life.

P.S. “I imagine life without love has to be unhappy” –Roberta Orlandini

Fun Fact: Fabio and Roberta got married so they could live in an on-campus apartment while studying their doctor’s degree in the US.
