How to Handle Inquisitive Relatives

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UPRM chapter.

“It’s the most wondeerful time of the year..”- until you have to sit through endless dinners with that part of the family you don’t see as often. Everyone has that aunt who has a special interest in your love life or a grandfather who still can’t understand why you majored in philosophy and as much as you would love to walk the other way or be seated at the kids’ table, small talk will be inevitable.

Winter vacations are too precious to be wasting them on family fights so you’ll have to go in prepared.  At the rise of these pestering questions you could choose to tell the truth, enforce those skills you learned at your Creative Writing class or handle them like a boss.

” So, what was it that you’re studying?”

“Oh, so are you going to be a teacher then?” No, grandma. There are a lot of career options these days.

“When do you graduate?”

“What are your plans after college?”

“How are your grades doing?”

“How’s (name of ex significant other)?”

Or  “How many boyfriends do you have?”

“You’re coming to church with us, right?”

“Have you put on some weight?”
