We women are changing the rules of the game, which is a fact. In a male-dominated culture, our generation has made an enormous advance in stepping out of the silence corner and advocating for women’s right all over the world. Singers, actresses, models, and basically every woman in the entertainment industry is making feminism count. TV shows are no exception. The typical damsel in distress female lead has shifted towards a strong, independent woman who can save the day herself, without the need of Prince Charmin’s intervention. Here are some of TV’s most kick a** leading ladies:

1. Olivia Pope from Scandal

She is probably the most powerful woman on TV right now and this character is a role model for women everywhere. Even if the love of your life is the President of the United States, don’t ever let that get in the way of your own triumphs and achievements. Don’t aspire to be anybody’s First Lady, but rather your own leading lady in the story of your life. Bold, black and beautiful, whatever your ‘Scandal’ is, consider it handled.

2. Regina “The Evil Queen” from Once Upon a Time

Once Upon a Time changed the way we see fairytales, but mostly it changed the way we feel about villains. As much as we love Emma, Snow and Charming, the real heroine in this story has turned out to be Regina. She taught us that, indeed “evil is not born, it is created”. But mostly, despite all the paths that could lead you to evil, anything can be repaired with tons of love, magic and bitchy humor.

3. Cristina Yang from Grey’s Anatomy

We are still devastated about losing McDreamy but let’s face it, if we had to choose between bringing him back from the dead or returning Cristina to the show, we pick Cristina blind folded! Brilliant, honest, big mouthed, driven, passionate and focused, Cristina is what all of us aspire to be. We miss you, but thank you for all the valuable lessons, inspiring quotes and appropriate GIFs you left us.

4. Blair Waldorf “Queen B” from Gossip Girl

You know you love her! She is the Manhattan royalty, the one and only Blair Waldorf.  We grew a love-hate relationship during six seasons were she bullied and schemed against everybody who tried to get in her way. But let’s face it; the Waldorf heiress was the one that spiced the show. Thanks to her driven and fearless spirit everybody in the Upper East Side held it together. Queen B, you know we love you, XOXO.

5. Catherine De Medici “Queen of France” on Reign

The show may be all about Mary and Francis trying to keep their kingdoms from being crushed by the English, but we know the only reason it has been possible is because they have Medici on their side. Based on the historical character, Catherine is a feared, powerful ruler that does what needs to be done to keep the kingdom together. When it comes to protecting her family and her people she has no scruples.

6. Emily Thorne from Revenge

Don’t let that pretty blondie fool you. That girl came to take down the Hamptons and everybody within it who destroyed her family. In order to do so, she faces powerful enemies, yet always seems to be one step ahead of her game. As much as she loves Jack, she is aware that her priority is not love, but revenge. Victoria, be careful, as you may finally be defeated!

7. Hayley from The Originals

The lady werewolf in town, mother of the miracle child that will change the Mikleson’s course of rough history forever! Willing to do whatever it takes to protect her daughter; Hayley’s badass attitude conquered the Mickleson’s soon enough, and so did us! Long live to Hope and her warrior mother.

8. Jane from Drop Dead Diva

Jane may have the brains, but struggles with everything else. So Debb’s task is turning boring Jane into the confident, sassy lady she used to be in her old body. Jane proofs that stereotyped looks are overrated, and that the best accessory a women can wear is a kick-a** attitude.

9. Kimmy Schmidt from Unbreakable

Kimmy may seem too vulnerable throughout the show, but she is definitely strong as hell, and filled with determination not to be broken ever again.

10. Caroline from The Vampire Diaries

Living proof that Caroline is the strongest female character of TVD? She was able to resist Klaus five centuries old charms and accent. Since the show started, Caroline’s character has evolved from an insecure and manipulative girl, into a strong and confident vampire who is able to keep everything running smoothly on Mystic Falls. Whenever there is a collective emotional breakdown she seems to be the one helping everyone fall into their senses. Isn’t that right, love? (Insert Klaus accent here)
