Spooky Stuff: Halloween Night, the Night Where We Are All Vulnerable

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UPR chapter.

Halloween is known to be one of the creepiest nights of the year.

This is all because this day, also known as All Hallow’s Eve, is the one night of the year where the veil between the living and the dead is lifted and humans are vulnerable to paranormal activity.

Like it is mentioned in American Horror Story, during All Hallow’s Eve ghosts blend in with humans and it is really hard to identify them. Because of this, ghosts take advantage of humans and do with them as they please–they don’t care about what they do because this is the one night a year they actually get to enjoy themselves. As a result, us humans need to be very wary during this night because sadly we are not going to be protected in any shape or form. As it is expected, many things have happened to people all over the world during this mythical night.

One tale that is very well known is called the “Lady in the Veil.” This happened in Texas, some time ago.

A young man named Carlos was walking through a cemetery the day before All Hallow’s Eve, and we all know nothing good ever happens at a cemetery at night during that time. Carlos then spotted a feminine figure roaming around as well. He quickly became enchanted by this figure and approached her. She was wearing a veil that completely covered her face and Carlos tried to get her attention to catch a glimpse of her beauty, but to no avail. He kept pursuing her until she stopped and faced him. Carlos told her that all he wanted was to take her out and she agreed to meet him in the same spot the next day, on All Hallow’s Eve.

Carlos’ cousin, Diego, was wary of the situation, as he knew of a bride who had died the year before who had been rumored to be roaming around. He tried to warn Carlos, but he was too infatuated to listen. Carlos left for the cemetery and Diego trailed behind, trying to see if he could stop him. The Lady in the Veil received Carlos with glee, and Carlos went to her without hesitation and begged her to let him see her face. She removed her veil, and Diego saw the skeleton underneath, but Carlos was enchanted and appeared to see a beautiful woman. Diego was trapped in the spot and unable to warn Carlos of the truth as the Lady kissed him and dragged him underground, where Carlos was locked in an eternal embrace forever.

This is only one of the things that have happened and continue to happen.

Please be wary during this night.

Avoid cemeteries at all costs, no matter how cool you think they are because you could wind up in an eternal embrace like Carlos.
