Thanksgiving is a great time to catch up with your family, see those cousins you haven’t talked to all year, and enjoy delicious homemade food. It’s also a great opportunity to get comfortable on the couch, indulge in delightful pumpkin spice-themed beverages, and dive into a selection of iconic movies and shows that will set the tone for Thanksgiving week. These pieces of media discuss various themes such as love, friendship, and family, and some are just cozy mysteries to watch on a nice afternoon. Here are some shows and films you must revisit this holiday:

1. When Harry Met Sally

When Harry Met Sally offers the viewer a cozy autumn ambiance as it’s set in New York City. This is a timeless rom-com that gives one a feel-good sensation and appreciation of falling in love.

2. Little Women

Although it takes place in a historical setting, Little Women is a movie that revolves all around family and connections, similar to Thanksgiving week. This film portrays the beauty of womanhood in a captivating way. The movie presents itself with warm aesthetics and natureful visuals. It is also important to note that it is based on the book by Louisa May Alcott and there is nothing more autumn than curling up with a good book.

3. Holidate

Holidate revolves around various holidays throughout the year, making it a great option for a movie night. While it is mainly centered on Christmas, it remains a fantastic choice for an enjoyable experience all year round. This modern romantic comedy can cater to a Gen Z audience, who can easily relate to its themes. It’s a perfect film to add some lighthearted entertainment right before your turkey is done roasting in the oven.

4. Free Birds

Nothing could go wrong with turkeys and time travel. Free Birds is one of those movies that you watch once and never think about again but this is your chance to rewatch this silly gem. Although not historically accurate, this animated film doesn’t take itself too seriously. This is a very unique Thanksgiving movie and it is overall a very wholesome movie to watch with your family.

5. Friends

Friends Thanksgiving episodes are classics and, in my opinion, the funniest episodes in the whole show. Each season features an episode centered around the holiday. Many with different gags and bits that will make you laugh out loud. My personal favorites are “The One With the Rumor” (Season 8, Episode 9) and “The One With All the Thanksgivings” (Season 5, Episode 8).

6. GILMORE GIRLS

Stars Hollow is the place to be this autumn! If you want to watch television Thanksgiving week but don’t know what, Gilmore Girls should be your go-to. Pick out your favorite episodes, get a glass of “coquito” or coffee then sit back, and relax while you let our girl, Rory, make some questionable decisions this holiday season.

7. Only Murders in the Building

Looking for a cozy mystery series with a fall vibe to binge-watch? Only Murders in the Building should be on your list. This show features a group of unlikely friends uncovering the murders that are going on in their apartment complex. This series is fun and heartwarming. The fall color palette and the “found family” trope presented in the characters’ relationships make this show an amazing Thanksgiving week watch.

8. Gossip Girl (S3, E11)

No one does Thanksgiving like the Gossip Girl crew. Throughout the seasons, there are a few Thanksgiving episodes but the one that stands out the most is “The Treasure of Serena Madre” (Season 3, Episode 11). This episode is drama-filled and has Jason Dereulo’s iconic “Whatcha Say” playing in the background as secrets are revealed. Yes, Thanksgiving is wholesome but there is nothing like some good ole’ gossip to make the evening even better.

Whether you’re in the mood for a romantic adventure, comedies that will make you laugh out loud, or touching family tales, there is always something for everyone to enjoy. Gather around with your loved ones, sit in front of the TV, and watch the night away.
