It’s time to finally admit it… we all have a love-hate relationship with trends. The ever-shifting trend cycle is truly captivating, one minute it’s one thing and the next it’s another. Starting this year off strong with the towering presence of the coquette aesthetic, I sense that we’re slowly leaning into something new. The “mob wife aesthetic” that has taken over my feed is a playful twist on animal prints and dark hues. If you’d asked anyone for their thoughts on leopard and cheetah prints a year ago, they probably would’ve dubbed it as cheugy, but that’s no longer the case. I may not know a lot about fashion analytics, or data in general, regardless, here are my fashion predictions for 2024.

Also, you have to give me credit, I’ve been on the coquette train since 2022 so that has to be worth something!

1. basics

Say goodbye to the Urban Outfitters corset and hello to elevated basics! This year mix and matching will be very popular, especially for going out. We’re definitely going to see girls wearing unique tops with a simple bottom or funky pants/nice skirts with a basic top. The possibilities will be endless!

2. fun jewelry

This year we’re going to see a resurgence of chunky and fun jewelry. Clean girl aesthetic will be no more and mixing metals, wearing unique charms, and statement pieces will be used to elevate outfits instead.

3. Animal print, duh!

With the “mob wife aesthetic” dominating this past January, I fear that animal print is not going to stop dominating our feeds anytime soon. Cheetah, leopard, zebra, tiger, you name it! All the cool girlies will be wearing it.

4. CAPRI PANTS

Now this is one I’m not very fond of, but I know the fashion girls will be eating these outfits up. Capri pants can be considered horrendous, but with the right styling your fit can turn into a masterpiece.

5. TIGHTS

I will probably not be partaking in this trend as I live on a beautiful tropical island, but tights are going to be all the hype for going out this year. Not just any tights though, fun and unique ones. Lace, polka dots, glitter, dyed; every type will be worn!

6. PERSONAL STYLE

Developing your style is the IT thing this year. Wearing what you feel comfortable in and what you like is going to be key! I consider clothes to be the best way to get to know someone, so you better embrace it. Get to know what you like and dislike; don’t wear stuff just because it’s trending. Try buying stuff you know you’ll be using two years from today; in this way, finding your style also helps the environment. Determining what you like and don’t like reduces overconsumption and your carbon footprint considering you’ll be using these outfits two years from now. This encourages a more mindful and intentional way to see fashion, ultimately benefiting the environment.

As we navigate the world of fashion, always remember to embrace yourself and don’t resent the trend cycle. Instead, appreciate that it keeps us on our toes as we look forward to finding new pieces to fall in love with.
