How To Take Your Mind Off School When You Have Free Time

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UPR chapter.

Classes are almost over and we can all feel the finals heavy workload. But the good news is that summer is just around the corner. So, how will take your mind off school then? Here are some things that you can do to enjoy your free time:

1. Pamper yourself

Ok, sometimes you wake up super lazy and you don’t have any energy to get all dolled up for you 7 a.m. class. Don’t have time to brush your hair and you just don’t care? We have all been there, but when you are free of any academical responsibility, pamper yourself! There is nothing more relaxing than putting on a face mask and listening to some zen music. Make yourself a mani/pedi! Get on youtube and learn how to make some exotic hairstyle. You have time to look good and you deserve it.

2. Go for a walk

Puerto Rico has some beautiful spots! Discover your island and take in the surroundings. Think about something other than your test score on that hardcore psychology final. Maybe you’ll see something and get inspired. Pick your favorite spot like Old San Juan and I assure you the view will take your mind off any problem.

3. Indulge on your favorite food

There are just some foods you can’t eat everyday, but once in a while treat yourself.  I know that on vacations, cupcakes are my favorite endulgence. If you have some free time, try to bake goods, sample a new recipe and who knows maybe you turn out to be a cooking wiz!

4.  Get creative!

In school we all probably had an art class to craft and make some bracelets. We could get creative because we had more time. Due to the hectic and busy schedules that most of us have nowadays, we haven’t had the time to hit the gym or even practice our favorite hobbies. During summertime, try doing a hobby again and invest your time in something that you love to do. I always recommend to work on something crafty like knitting or batik because they help you release stress and if you’re really good at it, you can even make your own knitwear. Put your creativity to good use and have fun with it.

5.  Beach it up!

Remember we live in paradise? Go to the beach! Like any beach will do. Grab a magazine or a good book and just relax. Remember that you’ve been spending most of your time studying between four walls, so now you have to go out and live. Take some vitamin D, you surely need that tan!
