HCUPR Contributor: Oscar Fortuño

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UPR chapter.

I remember the first time that I met this guy, one of the first things that he told me was that his last names were ironic, because of politics.. So, by default, I must admit that this guy is quite the sarcastic joker. An introvert with a heart of gold, Oscar has been able to sweep me off my feet numerous times. Because that’s just who he is. A fun fact about him is that he has a “lucky” lobster t-shirt. As a former theater guy, Oscar will captivate us, not only with his way of interpretation, but also of the way he describes things. Last cool thing I’ll say about him is that he’s the geekiest, yet most charming guy I’ve ever met. And no, Oscar, we’re definitely not good friends.*all sarcasm intended*

Name: Oscar José Fortuño Bernier

Age: 24

Major: US History

Classification: Transfer Student, freshman

Relationship Status: Single

Hometown: Rio Piedras

HCUPR: Tell us about yourself.

Oscar: I’m a human being, not 3 squirrels in a human suit. A person who’s trying to do well. I enjoy reading and writing. Im an introvert but I still enjoy talking to people. My favorite color is green. I walk everywhere. I hope this makes me sound more interesting.

HCUPR: What are your short term goals?

Oscar: Graduate and make something out of myself. Learn how to play the banjo, and read more books than what I’m reading right now. Learn new things. Write more.

HCUPR: What is your biggest achievement? Why?

Oscar: I just try to live life to the fullest. And achieve what I can in the moment. One of my greatest achievements has been learning my left from right, because I’m dyslexic, and that’s pretty hard.

HCUPR: Ideal Date + Partner:

Oscar: For the date something that’s not very planned, but still fun. Like food, walk around Old San Juan. As for the partner someone who I can talk to and that can keep up with me.

HCUPR: Since this is your first year in Rio Piedras, how has it been so far?

Oscar: It has been pretty much different than Carolina, because everything is bigger, there’s more space. More buildings, a lot more people. And the fact that I’ve made friends is pretty good, too.

HCUPR: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Oscar: I see myself in 10 years as a better person, having grown, more mature, but still maintaining my red lobster shirt.

HCUPR: Something not many people know about you?

Oscar: I’m a fan of Mexican wrestling and I’d love to own a “Luchador” mask.

HCUPR: I know for a fact that you used to do theater back at UPR Carolina, how does that collide with your introvert personality?

Oscar: I may have an introvert personality, but I have the need to make people laugh, I enjoy having people around me and interact with them.

HCUPR: If this was your last day, how would you spend it?

Oscar: Probably stay home and take it as a day off. Spend it home with my family. If I think about it too much, I’d get very anxious. So you know, just fuck life.

HCUPR: How has been your experience so far at HerCampus?

Oscar: It has been fun, I’ve made a lot of friends. I like the people in HerCampus, and it’s given me an outlook to write about the things I like.

HCUPR: As a male contributor, do you have any standard to set?

Oscar: I don’t run anyone’s race. I just do my own thing. And if it’s good, it’s good, if it’s not, well, it’s not.

HCUPR: If you were president for a day, what would you do?

Oscar: I would really look into the injustices in the world, and look into the people that have had it really bad. Also, free ice cream for everyone.

HCUPR:  What are your plans with your major?

Oscar: I currently have no idea. I’m just learning what I can, and see what happens.

HCUPR: If you could do anything without getting caught, what would it be?

Oscar: Steal a million dollars, but then I’d feel really bad and end up giving them to charity.

HCUPR: Describe yourself in 3 words:

Oscar: Anxious, good, idiot.
