This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UPR chapter.

With a new section called FINE ART FRIDAYS we propose a way for artists to share their content and share a little bit about themselves, giving them a space where they can share with the world their craft! Enjoy.

HC: What made you be an artist?

E: I’ve been doing art as far back as I remember. Ever since I was a kid, I drew on tests, notebooks, or any flat surface and whether or not I had any free time. It wasn’t until late highschool that I wanted to keep learning about art (since people suggested that I had a talent) instead of doing the “going-to-college-to-study-medicine or be-an-architect”, as my family would have liked. Looking back to it, all those drawings I’ve made ever since I was a child only solidified my decision to go to college and study art because it felt like I had found my “true calling”, as people put it.

HC: How would you describe your art style?

E: Originally my art style was considered “anime influenced” (I’m a sucker for it, sue me.) But my style has changed since I entered college, and it depends on what work I’m doing to see which style is going to take place. At the moment I can draw cartoonish and on another I can draw realistic. But I can say that it’s a mixture of both on a daily basis, with whatever art medium I’m using at the moment. (pencil, charcoal, watercolor, ink, pens, colored pencils, etc)

HC: Do you have any inspiration?

E: I always look for anatomy to help me develop ideas, or just experiment with whatever flows into me when working (about my surroundings, what I’m listening to and whether if in the end I like it or not), but it’s specifically the female body – in all it’s shapes and forms (plus size, thin, curvy, you name it) – and trying to capture it’s essence while applying my own style. I also like to see other artists like Monet, Degas, Da Vinci, Bernini, Alphonse Mucha, Jenny Saville, John SInger Sargent, etc as well as other artists I’ve found on social media such as Kelly McKernan, Gabriel Picholo, Loish, Gwen DÁrcy or even find inspiration among my fellow artist colleagues.

HC: Where can we find you? (Social media or otherwise)

E: You can follow me on Facebook as Eddy Roldán or follow my FB page Eddy RG Art Page. I also have an instagram account where I post mostly everything at @eddyrg-art and a Tumblr page arts-within-shadows and Twitter as @Artsy_Eddy.
