The 7 Apps & Google Chrome Extensions for Students

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UPR chapter.

Student life is very busy. We all know that looking for shortcuts online that help us increase our productivity is one of the best options to help us get through our to-do list. Now that we are at an age where we can find apps or Google Chrome extensions for virtually anything to make studying easier and more fun, the difficult part is choosing which ones will actually help you the most. Here is a list of apps and extensions that we looked up so that you don’t have to!

Noisli

In the age of digital clutter, sometimes it’s hard to concentrate because of your surroundings. Noisli can help! It’s a Google Chrome extension, but you can also download it as an app on your cell phone or tablet. Noisli helps you be more productive and to relax and concentrate on what you have to do by ambient/white noise. It can also set timers for tasks and has a minimalistic typing section. Personally, the white noise really helps me concentrate when I need to read texts for my classes.

Block and Focus

Working on the computer can be dangerous to our wandering minds. I usually start doing assignments on my computer. At some point, I drift over to Youtube. Suddenly I’ve watched 3 videos. Block and Focus is a Google Chrome extension that blocks the sites that distract you from working. You can choose the amount of time you want those sites to be blocked for, and if you want to have resting periods to use those sites you can customize it that way. I’m sure this extension will help you be much more productive.

Session Buddy

Doing research for an essay or a project can be very hard, especially if you have so many tabs open that you can’t find the one you need. Session Buddy is a Google Chrome extension that helps you organize and save all your open tabs to avoid the mess of having them all open at once. This way, you can manage your tabs efficiently and find vital information more easily.

StudyBlue

There are a lot of ways to study, but StudyBlue gives you a fun way to study when you’re on your own. On this app, you can create your own flashcards, quiz yourself and verify how much progress you’ve made. I’m sure this app will help you get better grades.

Circle of Six

As students, we like to hang out and enjoy the nightlife, but sometimes walking alone at night can be dangerous. Circle of Six is an app that tells six people of your choice where you are and how they can help you if the need arises. If someone’s trying to talk to you and making you uncomfortable, you can tap a button and it will send a message telling the six people to call and pretend to need help so you can leave safely. The app also provides access to some help hotlines and it was created to prevent sexual assault.

Adobe Scan

Having some documents in digital format is essential, especially for college students. The Adobe Scan app could help you when you need to scan a document, be it just to have it digitally or for when you need to send it to one of your professors. I honestly find it better and easier to use than a normal scanner, and it has helped me a ton with my classes.

Get it on Android and IOS.

Goodbudget

At times, one’s guilty of overspending. It’s very difficult to maintain a certain budget when one has to pay for college tuition, books, food and hangouts with friends. The app Goodbudget will help you manage your money and keep track of how much money you spend on certain things.

Get it on IOS and Android!

I’m pretty sure that these 7 apps and Google Chrome extensions will make your student life a whole lot easier and fun. Be sure to download them if you feel like one of them could help you!
