Top Five Reasons Why Raja Kumari is the Queen of Hindustan

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNT chapter.

If y’all haven’t heard of Raja Kumari, then I guarantee that you might become a fan after reading why she is a true desi queen.

1. Her successful career

Svetha Rao, professionally known as Raja Kumari, is an Indian American singer-songwriter who started off collaborating with artists like Timbaland and Dr. Dre and writing hit songs for people like Fifth Harmony, Gwen Stefani, Fall Out Boy, and Iggy Azalea. It then led her to landing her first platinum single and a Grammy nomination. After writing songs for other artists, she then decided to take on her own musical path after being signed to Epic Records in 2015. After releasing her mixtape and two EPs she has become one of the most notable names in the Indian music industry. Her success has led her to a number of opportunities like being a judge on India’s first rap reality competition show MTV’s Hustle, and opening up for Wiz Khalifa at the Sunburn Festival in Mumbai.

2. She’s a quadruple threat

Along with being a singer and a songwriter, Raja Kumari is also a rapper, and is also a fully trained Indian classical dancer. Growing up, she developed a love for rap music at the age of 10 and started classical dance at the age of seven. Once she broke out into her own solo career, she decided to take the sounds and rhythms you often hear in Indian music and use them to create her own original songs. The cultural influences that she grew up with have really sparked her creativity when it comes to making her craft. That leads us to reason number three…

3. Her amazing music

When it comes to describing what makes her music so great it’s hard to put into words. So I’m going to let a few of my favorite songs from her down below do the talking.

4. Her killer wardrobe

Every time that Raja Kumari has an event, concert, or TV appearance, she always makes sure that her looks are on point. She has a very urban and edgy style with a touch of South Asian flare. If I could, I would raid her closet; she has such an amazing taste when it comes to fashion.

5. Her amazing heart

Aside from being an amazing artist, Raja Kumari is such a beautiful person on the inside. She is someone who never forgets where she comes from, and stays in touch with her roots. With all of the fame she has received, she doesn’t let it get to her head. Even after her concerts she takes time to meet her fans, thank them for coming to her shows, get to know them, and take pictures. Every time Raja Kumari meets her fans she welcomes them with open arms and a smile. I know this because me and my sister got to meet her after her Dallas show back in June. I still remember giving her the biggest hug and talking to her about how she’s an inspiration to me. That night will be one that I will never forget and I will always continue to support her and her music.

After reading this, you’re probably on the fence about whether or not you should listen to her music. I’m here to tell you that you should. I guarantee that you will instantly become a Raja Kumari fan after listening to the songs I listed above. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed.
