How To Stay Positive During the Coronavirus Pandemic

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNT chapter.

It is a crazy time right now, and I’m sure that everyone is freaking out. I can only imagine what is going through the whole world’s minds, but I really sympathize with my fellow college students. Our normal routine has been completely shifted, our classes have gone online and there’s a possibility of not walking the stage. It’s an adjustment, but we can get through it if we stay positive. Here’s some tips for staying calm right now.

We’re technically on lockdown, but get out of the house. CDC says to keep a distance of at least six feet away from others when you are going outside right now. Take the time to take a walk and just get your blood pumping. As much as being a couch potato has been wonderful, getting your blood flowing and soaking up the sun can ease the panicking!

Download meditation apps. Calm and Headspace are great apps to help you meditate or get you mind off of everything that is going on. ASMR has been a big help for me is well. It gives my mind something else to focus on!!

Pick up the hobby that you forgot about months ago. Or maybe pick up a new one. Since we are confined to our homes right now, rediscover an old hobby or discover a new one. Knitting is a great activity to keep your brain focused on something other than the fact people are stockpiling toilet paper.

Have a movie marathon with your quarantine buddy. I have taken this time to watch complete franchises. Watch all of the Fast and Furious movies, or perhaps relive your teen years and watch the Twilight Saga (that’s next on my list). Nostalgia could potentially get your mind off of the virus that we won’t name.

Getting used to this new (and TEMPORARY) normal can and will be hard, especially for my college students out there. It will be okay, and we will get through it. Please practice social distancing. Wash your hands all the time. Don’t touch your face. Call your friends if you feel lonely. Read some books. We will be okay!!
