Emotions You Experience as a Senior, According to Rachel Greene

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNT chapter.

So, you’ve finally done it. You’ve reached your last semester of college. Whether it’s grad school, a gap year, or an adult job waiting for you, the real world is approaching and you honestly can’t wait. But before you get there, you’ll be feeling a lot of emotions, if you’re anything like me. From anticipation to sadness to pure excitement, here’s your last semester of college, as told by Rachel Greene.

Helplessness. Oh crap, is it January already? Am I really about to graduate in five months? Well. Time to start looking for a job or an apartment or a pair of headphones that I don’t lose every five days. Oh god, where can I even start?

Frazzled. You mean I actually have to find a place to live, learn how to cook, actually wear something other than sweats, fix my car, call my grandma, study for my classes, maintain my GPA so I don’t get fired before I even start, and decorate my graduation cap?

Too cool for school. That professor who refused to bump up your 89 to an A? Well, I got into grad school anyway and my ego is just a little broken. So, who’s the real winner here?

Carpe diem. Okay, this one isn’t really an emotion, but rather a state of mine. The reality of the world is weighing down on you, and you know there are only so many nights left to party, get drunk, and hang out with your friends. So naturally, you’re going to seize every opportunity that comes your way. Whether it means telling him you’re over it, making up for lost time, drinking till you can’t stop laughing, or playing board games all night with your roommates, you’re living life to the fullest.

Anticipation. You did it. You took your last set of finals, and the moment is finally here. Did you maintain that GPA you needed for grad school? What about that letter of recommendation your job wanted from your English professor? It’s all out of your hands now, so all you can do is sit back, take a shot, and let the chips fall where they may.

Happiness. Now it’s time to celebrate. After your walk the stage with that expensive piece of paper in your hands, it’s time to enjoy the last few weeks or months you have with your friends before you start a new chapter in your life. Although this is bittersweet, you wouldn’t have traded the last four years for anything. The friendships you made will last you a lifetime, and you cannot wait to see what happens next.

Peace. And here you are. New apartment, new job, new school, whatever it may be- you are finally where you belong. The long nights, late study sessions, ramen dinners, unwashed clothes, and annoying professors were all worth it. You conquered it all, and you made it. Who knows what the future holds!
