Take the “Ugh” out of Gift Gi(ugh)ving

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNL chapter.

With holidays just around the corner, I’m sure you are all wandering around aimlessly at the mall trying to find that perfect gift for a friend or loved one. Shopping is difficult for some of us. Sometimes you think you find the perfect gift that will make your BFF “literally can’t even”. But at the moment you hand over you’re well thought out gift, sometimes our friend’s reactions don’t add up to our expectations.

It’s frustrating to find something for yourself let alone another person. Part of the fun of giving someone a gift, should be shopping for the gift. Most times, this isn’t the case. We pull our hair out, crack our necks, and bend over backwards to find something someone will love and appreciate. Forget handing over a measly gift card, and use this guide to find the perfect gift your friend will LOVE.

The Traveler

This set can be found at the World Market online here, http://www.worldmarket.com/product/around-the-world-stacking-mugs-set-of…. For only $16.99 your special someone full of wanderlust can bon voyage right in the comfort of his or her own home with these artsy world-inspired mugs.

The Yogi

Now your giftee can throw their bulky yoga mats away, because Yoga Paws are revolutionizing the way we practice yoga and Pilates. Small and portable, Yoga Paws can go anywhere and everywhere. For a full set they run at $39.95, but can also be purchased for just the hands or feet at a cheaper price. Find yours here: http://shop.yogapaws.com/collections/yogapaws. Namaste.

The Book Worm

Do you have a friend or loved one who appreciates reading freely and a love for banned books? If so, take a look at these socks. Now they can show off their feet in style with these mismatching banned book titled socks and for only $12.00. Find them here, http://www.uncommongoods.com/product/banned-book-socks.

The Nutella Lover

The perfect gift to take the already obsessive spread to the next level. Here it is. Yep, a Nutella recipe book. You thought there was only a few ways to eat Nutella? Nope. The possibilities are literally…30, according to Ferrero. Urban Outfitters carries the book for $12.95. Here’s the link http://www.urbanoutfitters.com/urban/catalog/productdetail.jsp?id=290228….

The Selfie Queen

We are all (almost all) guilty of taking a selfie. Some more than others. Some much, much more than others. And then there are some people who dedicate their whole Instagram to selfies. Here is the perfect way to show your selfie-lovin’ friend that you support them and their selfie-takin’ ways. The “Selfie Pole”. Yes. It’s a thing. Now your giftee can get the perfect frame, no more close ups and half-head pictures, all thanks to the “Selfie Pole”. And only for $19.95. What a steal. Get yours here, https://www.thegrommet.com/selfie-pole-1.

The Coffee Lover

Not just the coffee lover, but the iced coffee lover. This thermos turns hot coffee cold within minutes. When I saw this, I flipped. As an avid coffee drinker, more so iced coffee drinker, I had to put this one down on my list right away. For me, this means no more concocting different iced coffee drinks hoping to unleash my inner barista (in which most times I find myself sitting down with a nice ice cold glass of water with a pitiful and miniscule hint of coffee). Check it out here for $29.95 http://www.williams-sonoma.com/products/zoku-iced-coffee-maker/.

The Not-So-Close-to-Home Friend

If you’ve had someone so close to you move away from their home state and away from you, you know just how hard it is on you, let alone them. Show them you miss them and how much you care with a state shaped cutting board from AHeirloom. James Beard once said “Food is our common ground, a universal experience,” add their home state to that quote, you have the perfect gift for someone close in your heart but far on the globe. These go for $48.00 at http://aheirloom.myshopify.com/collections/the-state-shaped-cutting-boards, and can also be personalized for an added $4.00.

The “Basic White-Girl”

In this case, I will have to take back what I said early on. Get the gift card. Get the gift card and don’t look back. They will open that tiny envelope and “literally can’t even”. They’ll be ecstatic, you’ll feel accomplished, what more do you need? While were on the topic of “basic white girls” let’s be honest and do a self eval of ourselves real quick. We all have a little basicitity in us (100% positive I just made basicitity a word). I know that I’d be more than content with receiving a gift card for caffeine and overly happy barista customer service. When in doubt, get the gift card. Available online at www.starbucks.com and in a local store near you.

Now, I realize you may have read through this whole guide, and still have no idea what to get that special someone. As I was putting together this list, I found there is a mug for almost any type of person. Google it. Literally. So. Many. Mugs.

If you decide this person needs more than a mug, I suggest you check out these websites, as there are many gift ideas for all different types of people.
