Study Finds Instagramming Food May Make it Taste Worse

#lunchdate with the bestie! #food #nom

I’ll admit it. I’ve Instagrammed and even pinned a few of my meals. We probably all have. A new study shows, though, that taking pictures of your food might just make it taste bad.

A study done at Brigham Young University found that viewing pictures of food causes “sensory boredom.” Essentially, you’re already bored of the food before you even taste it and are ready for something new. In the study, half of the 232 participants viewed pictures of sweet foods, and the others viewed salty foods. After looking at the pictures, each participant was asked to eat salty peanut and rate how much they liked them. Those who had seen pictures of salty foods were more disappointed with the taste of the food, as the taste had been exhausted already.

So before you hashtag #starbucksdate or #foodporn, take a moment to enjoy your food – and its taste – instead.
