I Am Still Freaking Out About the Game of Thrones Teaser Trailer

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNL chapter.

A teaser trailer for the final season of Game of Thrones was released last month and O M G. The show that redefined television is coming to an end. The final season is highly anticipated and fans have been waiting for what feels like forever. And we are slowly getting bits and pieces. The recent trailer release has fans freaking out, to say the least.

I will admit I have not watched it since the beginning, but when I finally watched all the seasons (in a really short amount of time), I became nearly obsessed. Since then, I have been researching and waiting and discussing the possibilities and hopes for the final season, as well as reminiscing on the past seasons.

The trailer starts with Jon Snow, who is the Azor Ahai according to some. His past and future will play an essential role in the plot and the fate of Westeros. He is joined by his sisters, Arya and Sansa. The Stark family, the center of war, turmoil, and triumph will help the determine the fate of the world as the White Walkers close in on the world south of the wall.

Silently and solemnly, a feather falls to the ground. This supposedly the feather King Robert places there is the pilot episode. This is major symbolism and shows the importance of past events and how they will tie into the present and future.

The Stark children walk through the crypt passed the statues of their aunt, Mother, and Father as their voices echo through the halls saying famous and important quotes. This shows the effects these people have had on the world, as well as showing that this season is the cumulation of all events before it. Interestingly, all of the quotes are related to Jon Snow.

Jon, Sansa, and Arya stop at the end of the crypt, facing their own statues. This is a grim and solemn scene that reminds us, viewers, that no one is safe. The Starks know they may die this winter, and we know it too.

They turn around as the crypt freezes over. Winter is here and it brings the White Walkers and the army of the dead. The Starks will face it head on, knowing they face death. The Stark children are standing together as they face the winter because as they know, “The lone wolf dies, but the pack survives.”

I got chills watching the trailer. I can’t wait to get more content. But in less than two months, the final season begins. The beginning of the end of nearly a decade. Who will sit upon the Iron Throne, will there even be an iron throne to sit upon? We will begin the journey to find out on April 14, 2019. #ForTheThrone For a really great breakdown, I recommend this video.
