Husker Cheerleader Alexis Vercher

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNL chapter.

What year are you and where are you from?

I’m a junior from Montgomery, AL.

What is your major?

My major is Child Youth and Family Studies with minors in education and gerontology.

How did you become a Husker cheerleader?

I became a Husker Cheerleader by auditioning my senior year of high school in the spring before I came to UNL.

What does being a cheerleader entail?

Being a Husker Cheerleader means being an ambassador to the school and upholding the traditions of how our cheerleading team works. Our main goal is to maintain high academic success while successfully keeping school spirit at an all time high at all major sporting events such as Football, Men’s and Women’s Basketball, Volleyball, and women’s gymnastics

What is your favorite part of being a cheerleader?

My favorite part of being a Husker Cheerleader is my interaction with the fans. At the end of the day when the makeup comes off, the hair comes down and I hang up my uniform, it’s the bonds I’ve made with fans that stand out to me the most. Glitz and publicity aside, it doesn’t beat the warm fuzzy Husker vibes I feel on a daily basis.

Why did you decide to come to UNL?

I decided to come to UNL for the nursing program… I was already accepted into the University of Alabama’s four year nursing school but chose UNLs program on a whim as something different. Once I visited this University, I fell in love. Husker Nation is like no other.

Describe yourself in three words.

To describe myself in three words I would say I’m driven, empathetic, and adventurous!
