Tess Bigando lives for Fashion! It has been a dream of hers to work in Fashion and she has proved this by scoring an amazing buying internship with Marciano, a label by Guess, in Los Angeles this past summer and she is also a rep for both the Marie Claire and Cosmopolitan magazines. I decided to dig a little deeper and discover some insights that these experiences have brought to her and even learned that she writes a fabulous blog in her free time. Readers, continue to read to discover what I got to.

HC: What are some of the most amazing things you learned while working for the Marciano Label?

I think learning about the whole buying process, as a whole was really cool. I didn’t know how much the buyers have a part in every department of the company. From Planning and Allocating, to Design, Production, and Marketing. It was really cool being a part of the entire process, especially the beginning when design first presents to us their line for a particular season, and then trying to understand design’s vision and bringing it to life.

HC: What is it like to work for what might be considered some of the most famous magazines out there: Marie Claire and Cosmopolitan? Are there any perks?

TB: From these two campus rep positions, I’m learning a lot about what a customer wants, and I plan to apply this to a future career in merchandising and buying. I’m hoping to continue learning from Marie Claire as a publication and using this program to further inspire my career aspirations. As far as perks go, besides the student discount for a 1 year subscription, they have had various competitions amongst all reps nation wide, and some of the prizes have been meeting or speaking to an editor from the magazines.

HC: What might be something that most people don’t know about Marie Claire and Cosmopolitan?

TB: I don’t think many students here at the University, who may read these magazines, know that instead of paying the newsstand price of $3.99, they can actually receive a one-year subscription for only $15, paying $1.25 an issue. It’s such an awesome deal! Students are able to use the below URLS to receive the discount!

Cosmopolitan URL: 833Fall2014.cosmopolitan.com

HC: What do you aspire to do someday? Perhaps, what is a life-long dream of yours?

TB: I’ve always dreamed of working in fashion and living in New York City. In the past three years or so I’ve pursued any opportunity to learn about the industry and to gain experience and network with great enthusiasm. I spent the past two summers interning in New York City and Los Angeles, and I fell in love with both cities. I hope to have a future career in buying or merchandising, working for a big fashion label, and living in either the east or west coast.

HC: What might be something most people don’t know about you?

TB:I have a personal lifestyle and fashion blog, called ‘In good faith, Tess’.  Like I briefly mentioned before, the fashion world has always been a special place for me, a sanctuary, and then in turn blogging seemed like the perfect escape.
