Twitter was abuzz on Sunday night as celebrities walked down the red carpet. However, who won awards was small news compared to Ellen Degeneres making twitter history with her celeb selfie. The shot includes Julia Roberts, Bradley Cooper, Meryl Streep, Jennifer Lawrence, Kevin Spacey, Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, and Jared Leto.
“We crashed and broke twitter. We made history.” Ellen stated during the show. By Monday afternoon, the picture had been retweeted around 2.8 million times, breaking the previous record for the most retweets with the picture of President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama hugging after the 2012 election.
It took about 34 minutes for the tweet to break the record, after which Laura Olin, a member of the Obama social media team, posted “We had a good run, little tweet. We had a good run.”
