Trashy vs. Classy: Tips to go from Tasteless to Trendy

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNH chapter.

The constant struggle of the ever so infamous question “what do I wear?” hits hard on the weekends. Getting ready to go out can take hours of digging through closets and drawers trying to find the perfect, cute, yet sexy outfit for the night. However, there is a very thin line girls can cross into disaster. When walking around campus at night the sight of girls wearing those oh so short skirts and cleavage bearing tanks are all too common. It’s not only freshman who pull out those extra tight bandage dresses, it’s girls of all ages here at UNH. If you don’t want to stick out as the most promiscuous girl at the party check out some tips below for the changes you can make to go from trashy to classy.

The Bandeau

To put it in a nutshell, a bandeau is NOT a shirt. If you’re wearing a bandeau with just shorts or a skirt, you might as well wear just your bra (and that’s far from classy). If you have a cute bandeau and want it to be a part of your outfit, pair it with a top that has an open back or is a bit see through! No need to fully hide it, just make it work with something that covers you up a little more!

Bodycon Dress

We’ve all been there, wearing a cute bodycon dress and constantly pulling it down…not the classiest move. Good news is there is an easy way to fix this! All you have to do is buy a size bigger. A dress should be at the SHORTEST 4-5 inches above your knee. If you’re shopping for a bodycon dress but it feels a little short, try to find one that has a crew neck. This way, you have a more conservative top to balance it out.  Another tip to keep it classy is if your dress or skirt is on the shorter side, don’t pair it with 5 inch heels, that will make it look even shorter. Try boots or 2 inch heels instead. This will not only keep you looking classy but give you an easier time walking around…who can complain about that!?

Too Cropped Tops

Being one of the current fads, cropped tops are a typical go-to for most girls. However, those tight cropped tops can be a little too cropped. A shirt ending right below your bust when you’re wearing low-rise jeans is not the classiest move. If you have a crop top that you love but it is a little too cropped, pair it with high waisted pants, shorts or skirt!

Love it or hate it, partying is part of the typical college experience for all girls. There’s never a shortage of events going on around the UNH Campus at nighttime. So when you’re searching for your outfit for a big night out just remember to keep it classy!
