It’s finally here, the end of yet another long academic year. As we college students wrap up the end of spring semester, know that no one is alone in their feelings of burnout and exhaustion. Final exams, papers and projects are all really draining. It is easy to overexert yourself and ignore how much this time is affecting your mental health. With summer on the way, it is a perfect time to decompress from all the stress and reset!

Here are some things you can do in preparation for resetting and getting back on track!

CLEAN YOUR ROOM

I am no stranger to a messy room. In fact, that is usually my bedrooms natural state. However, your space can really affect your mood. A messy room is often distracting and can make you feel lazy and stressed. Taking time to clean your room, and prioritizing keeping it clean, will make you feel a whole lot better and you will be much more productive!

MAKE A NEW PLAYLIST

New season, new you, and that calls for new music. Let go of the playlist you’ve been shuffling while procrastinating for finals and create a new playlist that feels like summer! It’s time to make new memories this summer with a whole new queue of songs to remember them by.

WORKOUT

I know working out can sound intimidating, it definitely did for me, but it can be a huge stress reliever. When getting started you don’t need to do anything crazy, start small and do things that feel right for you! Try yoga, going for walks around your neighborhood or even some fun YouTube dance workouts. Working out can look different for all people, but just make sure you are happy and having fun with it!

MAKE TIME FOR THINGS YOU LOVE

After months of academics being the top priority, it’s easy to have let hobbies and little things you love doing slip away. Summer is a great time to get back into them! Start making time for old hobbies or even try new ones. Doing at least one thing you love each day will make a huge difference!

JOURNAL

I promise journaling is worth all the hype it’s been getting recently. Taking time to journal each day is a great way to let your emotions out. You do not have to be a good writer to journal and it can be whatever you want it to be. Just grab a notebook and your favorite pen and you are all set!

TRY NEW THINGS & EXPLORE NEW PLACES

As we all return to our hometowns this summer there is a lurking fear about getting back into the same monotonous routine. Now, while some people find comfort in that, it can also be dreadful for others. Do not let this be a setback for you, go out and try new things! A new coffee shop opened downtown? Try it! Your friend invites you to their favorite lunch spot? Try it! You walked by a park you’ve never seen before? Go grab your blanket and speaker. A change in scenery can do wonders, so explore and get outside!
