Having healthy hair has always been a goal of mine. As someone who has been bleaching their hair for six years now, I really tried to take care of my hair as best as I could. I’ve learned that improving hair health doesn’t require an elaborate routine or a collection of trendy products. Instead, it’s about finding a mindful and balanced approach to caring for your hair.

Know Your Hair Type

Before you start your hair care journey, it’s important to understand your specific hair type. Is your hair straight, wavy, curly or coily? Each hair type has unique characteristics and requires specific care. Identifying your hair type will help guide your product selection and styling techniques.

Choose the Right Shampoo and Conditioner

Using the right shampoo and conditioner plays a crucial role in your journey to healthy hair. You should consider your scalp condition, your hair goals and key ingredients when making your selection. Parabens and sulfates can be harsh on the scalp, potentially causing irritation and dryness, so choosing products without these ingredients can be a gentler alternative.

Reduce The Amount of Heat on Your Hair

Overuse of heat styling tools can weaken and damage your hair. If you must use them, apply a heat protectant beforehand. Heat protectants will help reduce the damage being done to your hair. Some of my favorite heat protectants include:

Moroccanoil Perfect Defense Heat Protectant

Chi 44 Iron Guard Thermal Protection Spray

Bumble and Bumble Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil Heat Protectant Leave In Conditioner Primer

IGK Good Behavior 4-in-1 Prep Spray

Get Your Hair Trimmed Regularly

Regular trims are the secret to maintaining healthy hair. Schedule a trim every 6 to 12 weeks to prevent split ends and promote healthy growth. Hair trims are good for avoiding/getting rid of split ends, preventing hair damage and keeping you knot-free!

Healthy Hair Starts With Your Scalp

A healthy scalp is the foundation for maintaining beautiful and vibrant hair. A healthy scalp is less prone to conditions like dandruff and flakiness. Keeping your scalp clean and well-moisturized can contribute to a flake-free, comfortable environment for hair growth. Scalp massages also help stimulate hair growth. Use your fingertips to gently massage your scalp in circular motions, promoting relaxation and improved circulation. I also would recommend using a clarifying shampoo occasionally to keep your scalp healthy. Ouai makes a detox shampoo that is great at clarifying hair!
