As we embrace the holiday season and the conclusion of another year, it is important to refrain from being swept up in the hustle and bustle of the everyday, and make time for self-care. Personally, as a college student juggling final exams, projects, and reports, stress and anxiety can creep up quickly. It is valuable for our well-being to remain present, calm, and focused during this time. Here are some tips to remain centered in the final month of 2018, and look forward to a new, wonderful chapter in 2019!

1. Clean sheets ~ As simple as it may sound, a crisp set of clean sheets freshens your sleep and your space. Feeling refreshed is a great way to tackle whatever your day may bring.

2. Spend time away from your phone/technology ~ Nowadays, this is not as easy as it seems. With our entire lives on our phones and computers, it is hard to back away. However, taking moments throughout the day to be present in the moment, and refrain from being pulled into the social media traps can make us feel more connected to ourselves and our purpose. Instead, enjoy a good book, connect with friends and family, or step outside and appreciate nature.

3. Drink tea and light a candle ~ Tea is naturally very soothing, and is a great accompaniment to relaxation. It is incredibly revitalizing to designate time at the end of each day to make our space peaceful and quiet to reflect and let our mind unwind. A sweet-smelling candle, soft music, and a warm cup of tea are lovely during this time to enrich your senses.

4. Spend time with friends + family ~ With Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the general holiday season approaching, it is important to enjoy time with loved ones and give thanks. It is easy to get wrapped up in work, school, and busy schedules. Sharing laughs and special moments with friends and family brings so much joy into our lives, and reminds us of all we have to be grateful for.

5. Keep a journal ~ Whether it be writing down thoughts about your day, goals for the future, or your feelings about someone, journaling is reflective. It allows time to consider things in your life and plan for your future. With our entry into a fresh year approaching, it is an excellent time to consider everything you have accomplished in 2018, and all you hope to achieve in 2019. I personally write in a journal almost every night, and look forward to the time of personal observation.

I wish you all a very cheerful, restful holiday season, & rejuvenation in the New Year!
