As college nears its end, an abundance of emotions are circulating through the air around campus. For some of us, we are dreading moving back home. As much as we love our parents and siblings, we are preparing for our personal space to be taken over. Alongside moving home, we will no longer see our friends and roommates, especially those who live far away, who we spend every waking moment with. Here are a few ways you can overcome these thoughts:

  1. Redo your bedroom at home. A new comforter, decorations, or set-up will create a new fresh space and help keep an open mind.
  2. Plan Facetime calls with friends. If your friends don’t live within driving distance, make sure you plan Facetime calls to catch up.
  3. Plan a weekend getaway. Find a weekend when all of your friends can get together. Rent an Airbnb and go somewhere new!
  4. Prioritize alone time. Use this time at home to get to know yourself better. Your self care is important!
  5. Pick up a new hobby. No hobby is a bad hobby! Get a gym membership, take a cycling class, start painting, or read one novel a week, whatever works for you!
  6. Catch up with hometown friends. Friends who went to different colleges are experiencing the same thing as you. Rekindle with them and find activities you can do together!
  7. Establish boundaries with your family. You’ve been away for 4 years, so your family might forget how you operate or you might have changed. Let them know how you feel and be open and honest with them.
  8. Print out pictures or make an online scrapbook. Make a collage and keep it on your wall at home or even make a virtual scrapbook to send to your friends so they can be reminded of your favorite times together!
  9. Enjoy your last few weeks. As time dwindles down, make sure you go to all you favorite spots around campus. Soak up your experience while you can.
  10. Relax! There is no timeline on life. Whatever path you choose to take will be the right one. Everyone grows differently!
