5 Classic Love Movies That Won’t Make You Cry

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNH chapter.

Happy Valentines Day Wildcats! Or more like Happy “eating chocolates in bed, watching The Notebook, and bawling our eyes out” Day! We’ve all been there before. February 14th can be a real drag, but not all love stories have to bring a tear to your eye! Here are some classic movies perfect for the holiday that are guaranteed to make you enjoy the day! So go ahead, treat yourself to a movie marathon.

Princess Bride –Arguably the most classic love story. With humor, action, plot twists, adventure, and love (and even giants, castles, princes and princesses) this is the perfect fairy tale to watch for a happier Valentine’s Day. And if you haven’t seen this movie before, put it at the top of your list!

Ten Things I Hate About You – Is there anyone who isn’t a Heath Ledger fan? Ten Things I Hate About You is a 90’s twist on Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew. With a cast including the young Julia Stiles, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Gabrielle Union, this tale of bittersweet teen love is star-studded and classic.

Sixteen Candles – Every girl has dreamed of a boy standing outside their window holding up a boom box playing “their song”.  Remember the scene in Easy A when Emma Stone said, “I want Jake from Sixteen Candles waiting outside the church for me”? This movie is the epitome of 80’s cliché love story, and well worth the watch!

50 First Dates – New Hampshire’s own Adam Sandler plays a guy who falls for a girl [Drew Barrymore] who has amnesia, and therefore forgets their relationship every morning. This movie is full of comedy and is perfect to satisfy your “rom-com” craving!

How To Lose a Guy in Ten Days – Matthew McConoughey plays a business executive who makes a bet with his boss that he can make a girl fall in love with him in 10 days. In comes Kate Hudson, who is writing an article about how to lose a guy in the same time. The rapport between these two characters in this “battle of the sexes” romantic comedy is sure to entertain you!
