20 Acceptable Things to do in your 20’s

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNH chapter.

1.) Go on a road trip

Let’s face it- sitting in a car for hours and days on end will not be as glamorous once your back is aching, the people you’re with are annoying you, and you can’t remember the reason for even going on the trip.

2.) Stay up late

This is not a time for you to worry about staying up too late in fear of not getting out of bed the next morning. This is the only acceptable time to stay out all night and make the memories you will one day talk about when you’re too old to do them.

3.) Splurge on that perfect pair of shoes

We all have them- that perfect pair of something. They are usually completely unnecessary and much too expensive. Get them NOW, make a memory in them and you’ll never regret it.

4.) Relish in your  20’s hangover

In our 20’s we wash our face, throw on some sunglasses, hold a large coffee in one hand and a water in the other, and go on our way out the door for breakfast. By the time breakfast is over we forget we even had a hangover. In ten years a hangover will seem as bad as the plague, achy all over, unexplainable fatigue and a headache so terrible you won’t make it out of bed.

5.) Do crazy and unnecessary things to your hair

The ombre will not be acceptable in ten years, nor will shaving only one side of your head.

6.) Take that risky job- even if it’s far away and out of your comfort zone

Stop denying yourself the right to enjoy adventure because you are afraid. Just do it! You never know who you may meet or where it might take you.

7.) Get the body you’ve always wanted

Take advantage of all the energy you have at this time in your life. You are the hottest now that you’ll ever be, so flaunt it.

8.) Discover what makes you happy

Do things you wouldn’t necessarily see yourself enjoying. Step out of your comfort zone and live a little. Choose your attitude, and realize you are the only one controlling your happiness.

9.)  Find your inner confidence and communicate your needs

Go after what you want. More importantly fight for what you deserve.

10.) Travel

Do it now while you don’t have other expenses and endless piles of bills. Do it while you can’t blame other life events for getting in your way.

11.) Be a little selfish

Know that it is ok to do things for yourself every now and then, especially if it will benefit you in the long run.

12.) Accept kind gestures

Suck up your pride and let your parents pay for your dinner and give you some grocery money. One day you will be taking care of them.

13.) Fall hopelessly in love

The Olsen twins said it best, “Love is that can’t eat, can’t sleep, reach for the stars, over the fence world series kinda stuff.” Accept it, feel it, and if you are lucky enough, keep it.

14.) Find your style

Don’t spend your time trying to be someone you’re not. What looks good on someone else does not mean it will look good on you. Find an age appropriate style and wear that slutty dress; buy all of the floral sundresses you can, and pull off those leather leggings.

15.) Narrow down your circle of friends

Ask yourself if the people in your life are draining the life out of you or are they making you a better person just by being around? If your answer is the first option, don’t hesitate to find yourself busy the next time he or she calls.

16.) Stop playing hard to get.

Get out of your house, away from the phone, put on some real clothes and find someone who is capable of expressing real feelings.

17.) Relax

Quit worrying. If something is so terrible in your life that you need to complain to anyone and everyone about it, then perhaps you should change it.

18.) Know the kind of man you don’t want

By now we should have all had experience with the bad boy. You should have also figured out that it is time to kick him to the curb, if you haven’t already.

19.) Push your negative thoughts aside

Stop using all of your energy bitching about things that aren’t going your way. Think positive and use that energy to change what you don’t like. If you can’t do that then just accept what you have and be miserable.

20.) Love, Appreciate and Accept yourself

Don’t put your flaws on display. You are your harshest critic. Chances are people around you don’t even notice the things you are beating yourself up about.  If you have a serious flaw in your personality- making people run from you, accept it and change it. If not, love yourself and others will too.
