Taylor Maloch and Nathan Rogers, Campus Couple

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNCW chapter.

Names: Nathan Rogers and Taylor Maloch

Taylor is a junior at UNCW majoring in Communication Studies with a minor in Journalism. Nathan is in the army and is part of the 82nd Airborne division.

How long have you been dating: six months

HC: How did you first meet?

TM: We actually met on Tinder. Nathan “super liked” me a few weeks after I got the app and we just started talking. Honestly, since it was Tinder I wasn’t sure how things were going to go, but I’m really happy I took that chance with him.

HC: What was your first date?

NR: We met in Pittsboro and went to a local ice cream shop, and then we took a walk on a bridge.

TM: It’s an old bridge over a river; a lot of people like to paint the bridge so it’s really cool to go visit.

This was when they went to the Outer Banks, Bodie Island lighthouse specifically, but they “wouldn’t let us climb it that day because there was ‘too much wind.'”

HC: When did you know that you first really liked each other?

NR: I knew I first liked Taylor when I would get really excited when she would message me.

TM: I felt the same way. I would also get butterflies every time I saw him, I still feel that way now.

HC: What has dating through distance been like? What have been some obstacles and how have you overcome them?

NR: We aren’t really long distance, we live two hours away so we see each other every weekend.

TM: We haven’t really had any obstacles other than our schedule. Sometimes we can’t see each other because Nathan has to work but it could be a lot worse.

HC: What was the best date you have had together?

NR: That’s a tough one. We’ve had so many really fun dates. If I had to pick one I would probably say the best date we’ve had was when we went to the Outer Banks and it started pouring rain on us. It was really fun and we had a little road trip out of it.

TM: I loved that trip too, I also loved going to the fair last month. When we first met we talked about going to the fair and riding the Ferris wheel and we finally did six months later. We also got chocolate dipped cheesecake on a stick which we are now completely obsessed with.

HC: Any big plans or trips coming up in the future?

TM: Nathan is from California so I really want to go back with him for New Years to see his family. It’s not official since tickets are expensive, but hopefully it will happen!

HC: What advice do you have for newer couples when it comes to dating in college, especially when it comes to distance?

NR: Communicate! If you don’t know what your partner is thinking, you can’t help them through their life’s challenges. That’s what being a boyfriend or girlfriend is all about, being there for each other.
