Meet Savannah Brown, UNCW Junior.  Her sparkling, vibrant and charming personality will astound you and leave you wanting more.  Read on to learn more about her experience as the president of Phi Mu, where she sees herself in the future, her dream job, goals, and so much more!

HC: Are you involved in any clubs or organizations on campus?

I’m involved in Phi Mu, Habitat for Humanity, Phi Alpha Theta (History Honors Fraternity) Order of Omega! Each one of these organizations lets me meet all kinds of new people and have new experiences. Habitat for Humanity is one of my favorite clubs, and I’ve been involved since high school. It’s fun to build!

HC: How has your sorority affected you as a person?

My sorority has affected me as a person because it has made me a leader. I have learned how to delegate tasks, deal with difficult situations, be a friend, be a mentor, and how to lead a group of 100 plus women. Phi Mu has made me a better person overall because it has taught me how to be a friend, how to listen when people need me, how to be responsible and be accounted for. But Phi Mu has affected my life most by giving me the best friends I could ever ask for, and for making my time in college the best years I could ever ask for.

HC: What do you enjoy most about sorority life, and your sorority in particular?

What I enjoy most about sorority life is being able to grow as a person. Everyday my sisters push me to the best version of myself that I can be. They are always there to help me go the extra mile, in everything that I do. They have taught me how to be kind, how to delegate, how to lead, how to be responsible, how to laugh until I cry and overall, how to be the kind of person I want to be.

HC: What do hope to accomplish before you graduate?

Before I graduate, I hope to accomplish making Phi Mu a better sorority! I hope to leave a lasting impression on the women in the sorority now, and hope to empower them to follow their dreams. My sisters are the future, we are the future doctors, lawyers, teachers, mothers, nurses, historians, business entrepreneurs  and everything else under the sun. So before I leave UNCW, I hope to instill a confidence in them that shines bright, and I hope they realize how wonder and bright each and every member is.

HC: What are your plans after your graduate?

My plans for after graduation are to hopefully (fingers crossed) attend grad school for either one of my majors, history or anthropology. I would really love to get my masters, and then hopefully my doctorate and become a professor.  If I can’t do that, I would love to work abroad! I love to travel and have new experiences, so I would be overjoyed to find a job somewhere overseas.

HC: How did you meet your boyfriend/ how long have you been together?

I met my current boyfriends studying abroad in France this summer! We were both studying abroad from UNCW, and we made a bet on one of the world cup games that if my team won, he had to take me on a date. My team won, so we went out on a date, and the rest is history.

HC: Describe your dream job!

I have lots of dream jobs because I have lots of big dreams! I would love to work in a major museum as a curator, or working in special collections. I hope to work in Washington, DC. I also hope to work as a researcher in cultural anthropology, or as a professor at a university. I’m not sure where I’ll end up but I’m excited by all the possibilities.

HC: What (or who) is your spirit animal?

My spirit animal is Amy Poehler, especially her character on Parks and Recreation. I am obsessed with her!

HC: Do you have any favorite quotes?

My favorite quote is “life shrinks or expands in proportion to ones courage” by Anis Nin. My mom always had a magnet on the fridge that said that and when I was little and scared of everything, my mom always told me to go read the magnet, and its kind of been my life motto since.

HC: What’s been your most awkward moment at UNCW so far?

My most awkward moment was when I had just got out of the shower, and had accidentally locked myself out of my room, and all my roommates were gone so their rooms were locked. I lived in the campus apartments so I had to get my loaner key from Belk, meaning I had to trek across campus and wait in Belk’s lobby in a towel and shower flip flops. Yikes!
