Senior year is a time to be alive- you’re almost done with school, searching for your dream job, and still able to see your best friends daily. However, it can get incredibly overwhelming from small assignments stacking up, making sure your resume and portfolio are up to par and the everyday struggle of finding the last bit of motivation to finish off the academic year strong. As a second semester senior, I have picked up tips and tricks along the way that I want to share with you on how to survive senioritis and senior year in general.

1.Perfect Your Time Management

At this point in your college career, you probably have had to manage your time at some point. If not, now is the time. Senior year requires lots of work, and for me, it includes working, school work, finding time for job searching, hanging with friends, self-care, sleep, working out, and managing to not skip a meal. This is a lot for a senior to juggle all at once, but once you learn to perfect your time managing skills, it’ll help make the last year fun, and eventually help in your future career.

2. Get Help

Finding a good mentor, whether it be a recent grad, professor, career counselor, or a friend to give you advice and serve as a support system, is a huge help in thriving during your senior year. I find it easier to talk to someone who has credential and knowledge on what you want help with, especially if it is something as important as landing your first full-time job.

3. Don’t Overwork Yourself

It can be easy to be bogged down with everything going on in your life (who can blame you? You’re a girl boss after all.) Making sure to take time for yourself is crucial in a fun last semester of college. Your mental and physical health should be a top priority, and being able to take a break once in a while to go to the beach with friends, facetime your dog, or go thrift shopping is well deserved.

4. Have Faith Everything Will Work Out

Tying along to tip number three, don’t stress yourself out worrying how things will play out after graduation. Everything will work out in the end. Pray about what worries you, and get out there and do something about it. Having faith in yourself can go a long way. I used to underestimate my abilities and discredit my strengths and skills because I thought I couldn’t compare to “adults” (even though, I myself, am an adult). Think of yourself as able to accomplish what older, more experienced people in your field can do, and you will come across knowledgeable and confident (which are things you are).

5. Set Goals

Senior year is about setting and accomplishing your goals. Take time out of the day to set daily goals, monthly goals, and yearly goals to keep you on track and in the mindset of productivity towards the things you want to see get done. Goal setting can be overwhelming, and in my experience, can be a bit frustrating, especially as a senior in college who isn’t quite sure what the future holds. I’ve had to realize that setting goals are different than planning out your life. Sometimes goals aren’t always met, and that’s okay, that’s why they’re goals. Just pick yourself up and try again if you don’t succeed the first time, and you’re bound to accomplish anything you desire.

I hope these tips help and good luck!
