Halloween is rapidly approaching, which means it’s time to make fun plans, buy pounds and pounds of Halloween candy and pick an amazing costume! If you need a fun and unique costume idea for you and your friends, and also TV show and movie suggestions, you have come to the right place. I’ve compiled a list of some of my favorite TV shows and movies and Halloween costumes that match! What are you waiting for? Log into Netflix or Hulu and let’s get started!

1. Dirk Gently and Todd Brotzman from Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency.

Now, fair warning dear reader, Dirk Gently is a science-fiction show and is the weirdest and most confusing show I have ever watched. It’s also the most addicting show. I binged the whole first season in, like, a weekend (it was only 8 episodes, but still). If you’re a fan of Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, you should give this show a try – it’s based on a book written by Douglas Adams, author of Hitchhiker’s Guide. If you are looking for a unique costume, go as our favorite (possibly psychic?) detective Dirk! All you need is a white button up, a tie, a yellow leather jacket and a sunny disposition (British accent and holistic abilities not required). Don an American flag shirt and fuzzy jacket to go as his assistant/friend/assisfriend/“Not his Watson” Todd, played by everyone’s favorite hobbit Elijah Wood.

2. Basically any Superhero, from anywhere.

Are you more of a Marvel or DC person? A slew of new superhero movies have come out this year, including Wonder Woman, Spider-Man: Homecoming and Guardians of the Galaxy 2, and Justice League and Thor: Ragnorak come out in November. Whether you want to go as the Star-Spangled Man with a Plan or the Girl of Steel, your “super” costume is bound to turn heads! If you get a group together, you can go as the Avengers or the Justice League. I, myself, am leaning towards going as Supergirl. Unfortunately, my costume doesn’t give me X-ray vision. Sigh.

3. Pam and Jim from The Office.

Need a couple’s costume? How about Cat-Pam and 3-Hole-Punch-Jim? Or, you could choose one of Jim’s other genius costumes—“Facebook” is one of my personal favorites. Plus, Pam and Jim are so adorable together. If you and your significant other go as Dunder-Mifflin’s power couple, chances are at least one person will walk up to you and ask about what that letter Jim wrote to Pam ACTUALLY said. (It’s been years, but I’m still dying to know).

4. The Cast of Riverdale.

The Twin Peaks-esque teen drama on the CW is pretty addicting. The show is filled with intrigue, murder and…some killer outfits. You and your bestie can go as Betty and Veronica–all you need is pastels, cardigans and a ponytail for Betty and a black dress and pearl necklace for Veronica. Or, get a whole group together and go as the whole Riverdale crew! If you’re going as Jughead, a hat and hamburger are staples that must not be forgotten. Seriously, Jugheads of the world, don’t let Juggie (or Cole Sprouse) down.

5. The Characters from Clue.

Clue is more than just a board game! It’s a movie from 1985, and it features all of the colorful characters from the game with a few new faces. The movie is filled with twists and turns, and it’ll keep you guessing the whole time. I, for one, was sure it was the butler who did it…and who knows, maybe it was…? Get a group together and go as each of the suspects! Because, let’s face it, we still don’t REALLY know who killed Mr. Boddy…

6. The Doctor (or, really, anyone) from Doctor Who.

If you read my article about the new Doctor, you know how passionate I am about this sci-fi show. It’s slightly more ridiculous than Dirk Gently, and focuses more on time travel adventures and less on mystery-solving. It’s a great show, and every few years it gets a complete makeover. That means there are thousands of characters to choose from. You can dress up as the Doctor or any of his companions, or even a random alien that was in the background of a particular shot you like. The canon of Doctor Who is your oyster…

There you have it, a list of TV and movie-themed costumes for you and your friends! Maybe, using this list, you’ll discover a new show to get hooked on and find an awesome Halloween costume at the same time.

Happy Haunting!
