Alison Ford, Jamberry Consultant

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNCW chapter.

Name: Alison Ford

Year: Senior

Major: Human Resources and Operations Management

Hometown: Waxhaw, NC

A senior at UNCW, Alison Ford has been a member of many organizations throughout her college journey. Outside of the academic realm, Alison has a hobby (and job!) that she adores—Jamberry Nail Wraps. Read on to see what this business is and how she got started!

HC: What is Jamberry?

AF: Jamberry is an independent sales business (sort of like Mary Kay, Avon, etc.) that sells nail wraps- which are vinyl, non-toxic film coverings that can be applied directly to your nails. The material is different from all other nail wraps because the materials is both pressure and heat activated which creates a water tight bond to your nail. They can be applied at home in about 15 minutes and there are over 300 different styles to choose from. Also they last up to 2 weeks!!! They’re the bomb. I can’t go back to regular nail polish after using these.

HC: What are you involved in on campus?

AF: I am currently a Study Abroad Ambassador with the Office of International Programs (I was abroad last spring semester in the UK), I was previously a Seahawk Link with Transition programs, and I am in the Human Resources Association.

HC: What inspired you to sell Jamberry?

AF: My stepsister was the one who got me interested in becoming an Independent Consultant for Jamberry. It’s like owning your own business, and you can do it entirely from your computer at home! I joined her team, so she’s my up-line manager and helped me start my Jamberry biz- and to this day she continues to inspire me to grow my business!

HC: What’s your favorite part about being a consultant?

AF: I love being a consultant because I love making a difference in the way women feel about themselves. I have worked with so many ladies who had problems with biting their nails, and Jamberry wraps helped them stop the bad habit and grow out their nails. I just love how happy my customers are after applying their first ‘jamicure’ and seeing just how amazing they are!

HC: Favorite jamicure style?

AF: There are WAY too many styles to choose from!! I love the gold striped wraps, and the matte floral ones. Also, we just came out with our new Fall/Winter catalog, so there’s now a whole new bunch of wraps that I need to try out! I cannot wait!

HC:Any advice to students who want to get involved in extracirriculars?

AF:  I would advise students to get involved in extracurriculars because it will help you to make some amazing relationships and friendships that you will never find anywhere else. I joined the Crew club my sophomore year and was looking to make some awesome friends, which I did. The people I met on that team led me to meet so many more people, some of whom are now my roommates and closest friends. Find something you like to do, and take a leap of faith! Most likely, you will love it and will be so glad that you did it!
