4 Reasons Why Bid Day Is The Best Day of The Year

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNCW chapter.

With sorority recruitment almost here, I know all the girls in every Greek organization are super excited to meet their new members on Bid Day! For those of you unfamiliar with Greek life and recruitment in general, here are a few reasons why this day is so important to sororities!

1. Bid Day Themes

Every year, each sorority picks a theme for bid day and goes all out dressing up for the part. I don’t know about you guys, but when I was little I loved to dress up in costumes so bid day is by far my favorite day of the year. Girls go ALL out for this day. I’m saying flash tats lined up along their forearms, glitter everywhere, beads, boas, face paint…. You name it, they have it.

2. New Girls

Bid day is the celebration of adding new members to every sorority. Therefore, it’s a day filled with excitement and anticipation. For this event, each sorority runs to their new members embracing one another and welcoming them to their chapter!

3. The Return of Gamma Chis

While all of these new girls are going through recruitment, they need someone to be there guiding them throughout it all. Here are where Gamma Chis come in. Gamma Chis are a select few girls from each sorority who disaffiliate themselves for the summer to devote recruitment as a time to help new girls find their home. After all the new members run to their new chapters, the gamma chis get to come home to their sororities as well.

4. Bid Day Activities

After all of the new girls run to their new chapters, every sorority does some sort of activity together. They might go rollerblading, play ice-breaking games to get to know each other, or sit around and snack on foods while bonding over similar interests. Overall, bid day is the best day of the year, and I know I can’t wait for it this year!
