French 241 – French Culture and Business

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNCG chapter.

With the semester finally over, and finals week coming to end, it is time to reflect on the semester as a whole. It’s that time of the year where you decide which classes you would refer to other students at UNCG and which professors are worthy of that A+ rating on Rate My Professor. This semester I enrolled in a French class to complete my foreign language requirement. I, just like many of my classmates, had a great experience in this course and I encourage other students who are taking French classes to take this course as well.

1. The Professor

Monsieur Dola is the only instructor for this course and he is a great professor. He works with you, and makes sure that you understand the course material. He makes sure that your time in his class is a memorable learning experience.

2. Material Covered

The material in this class is more than just endless grammar practice and vocabulary review. This class takes a look into the ins and outs of the French lifestyle through the use of movies, powerpoints and exams. If you’re interested in studying abroad in France then this is the class for you.

3. Textbook

There is no textbook required! Who doesn’t love a class that only requires a notebook and a pencil? Textbooks cost a lot of money that most people do not have, which is why this class is remarkably fantastic.

4. Classmates

This class is a moderately small group which not only helps with the learning environment but it also provides a positive way to make friends. I have met a few good acquaintances and made some friends as well.

5. Language Requirement

This class can be taken in place of French 204 and still counts as a part of the French language requirement if you are not a French major/minor. This class provides a more hands-on experience where you are able to create your own French business and present it to the class. If creating Prezis, websites and commercials for a small business you created sounds like a pleasant experience then enroll in this class right now! I can guarantee that you won’t be disappointed.
