I don’t know about you, but this semester feels like it has been 6 months long already. So, just thinking about all the TV shows I’m going to binge during Fall Break warms my cold little heart. If there is one lesson I’ve learned during my college career, it’s that it is very easy to ruin a break with school work. But have no fear, fellow Spartans, because today I will share with you my 3 easy steps to making sure you have lots of time to relax. It all comes down to prep.

1. First things first, take care of your current responsibilities. Don’t start slacking, putting things off or skipping them altogether. Instead, make sure you are doing your homework, studying, going to class, and reading. Just be your normal, hard-working self. You definitely don’t want to have to be playing catch-up during break.

2. Look ahead. Make sure you know what is due right after the break is over. Write it in your planner or just make a mental note to be sure that you aren’t blindsided. There is nothing worse than the shock that you have three homework assignments, two exams and an essay due the day you get back to campus. Definitely not a warm welcome.

3. Divide and conquer. I don’t mean this in the traditional, ‘share the load with your friends’ sense. Simply divide up the work you need to get done, and do it. Don’t let the beautiful mirage that we call “Fall Break” convince you that you have plenty of time. Let’s be real, you aren’t going to have time to do it between Netfilx, Hulu, and naps.

Sure, these three “simple” steps may mean a little extra work before you get your time off, but I promise it’s worth it. So hunker down and get it done, Spartans.

I am currently a student at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. I am double-majoring in Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resources and Women's and Gender Studies. I love my university and the diversity on campus is important to me.
