In a previous article, Closet Cleaning Do’s and Don’ts, I’ve discussed the importance of going through your closet at least once a year and clearing out some of the clothes that are no longer your style. But after you’ve separated the clothes that you’re willing to part ways with, what do you do with them? I’ve tried various different approaches over the years like passing them down to my sister, donating them to my local Goodwill or refurbishing them into unique pieces. I always felt a little guilty when giving these items away; many of them were in almost new condition and had been quite expensive. That’s when I turned to Poshmark!

What is Poshmark?

If you haven’t heard of Poshmark before, it’s an online marketplace for new and second-hand clothing. It allows you to easily and comfortably shop closets and boutiques from over 80 million community members. Plus, Poshmark isn’t only limited to clothes; you can also list and buy new beauty items or home decor, as well.

How do I use Poshmark?

It’s easy to list items and only takes a few steps! Start by creating a new listing and posting a couple of pictures of the item, filling out a small description of the item and setting a price for it and you’re all done! It’s really that simple. Once you make a sale, Poshmark will mail you the shipping label so you don’t have to worry about stamps. From there, you package your item, write a little thank you note and put it in your mailbox for pick up!

Once your buyer receives their package, they can accept it and the payment is released to you. The buyer even gets to review the transaction based on the accuracy of the item description, how quickly the seller shipped the item, the communication with the seller, the cleanliness of the item and more! Don’t fret though, if the buyer doesn’t accept or review the item within three days of them receiving the package, then your payment will still be released. Unfortunately, Poshmark does take 20% of your earnings, so make sure you keep this in mind when pricing your items!

What if there’s a problem with my order?

Of course, sometimes accidents happen and either you receive an item that was not what you had ordered, didn’t match the photo or description or your package was simply lost in the mail. Fortunately, Poshmark has an incredible customer service team that allows you to open up disputes if you believe that you were scammed or one of the above accidents happened. From my personal experience, one of the items I had sold had gotten lost in the mail and Poshmark reimbursed both me and the buyer with the money. On the other hand, I have had buyers try and open disputes against me in an attempt to not have to pay for the item they received, but Poshmark has always been able to see right through this and denied the buyer’s request for a refund.

Poshmark has been an amazing side-hustle over the last couple of years. It’s allowed me to make some money on the side, make my own schedule and it doesn’t take up too much time out of your day! If you’ve ever had some clothes, new beauty items, or home decor that you’re looking to sell, Poshmark is the perfect place to do it. Happy Poshing!
