Everyone and their mother is busting out the pumpkins and sweaters to take their fall photos for the Instagram feed. I’m not sure about you, but my Instagram has been blown up by those pictures of couples or friends putting pumpkins on their heads. No longer! I have some ideas for a photo shoot that will keep you feeling cute and keep Instagram from getting boring.

flowers

Head to Michaels and pick up some of the cutest fall florals you can find. Stick to whites, dark orange and deep purples—trust me. Then grab a couple of your friends, turn on the twinkle lights and set the scene. Put on some (cute, Instagrammable) pajamas and sit with your back against the lit wall and hang the flowers upside down on the wall behind you. You can decide if you want to look happy or if you’re smizing. Either way it will bring out the fall without being too fall.

Sheets, but not for Ghosts

Say goodbye to covering your face and body with a sheet and say hello to drapery, my friend. Take that sheet you were going to ruin by cutting eye holes into, hang it over the twinkly lights we all have in our room and play in the sheet rather than under it. Let the sheet drape around you and be more sultry than sarcastic with this one. This will highlight your silhouette with cute poses.

Halloween pictures

If I see one more girl post her adorable Halloween costume at a frat party, I’m going to lose my mind. Go out before the party and give that costume the recognition it deserves. Use movement and find locations that match your costume. For example, I’m going as a fairy, so a few hours before we leave for the party my friends and I are going to go out to some trees and take pictures of me doing fairy things. I’ll be sitting and smiling at the sky, kicking my leg up and other things of a “fairy nature.”

Non-face filler pictures

I think you already know I’m going to say stop taking pictures of candles burning or a scary movie playing. Start taking pictures of changing trees, orange trees whizzing by while you’re driving or those same flowers you got from Michaels. Everyone knows what candles look like. Use pictures to bring out the fall nostalgia rather than the fall cliche. You could take a picture of you walking on the plaza with your back to the camera, and maybe those flowers made their way into your back pocket.

soft launch so pictures

These have got to be my favorite types of pictures and fall is the perfect time to do it. Matching PJs in a mirror picture? Yes. Wearing your coats on the plaza while walking and hiding your faces? Yes. There are an endless amount of options for a soft launch. If you don’t have a SO to soft launch, try doing it with your friends. I promise it’s just as fun. Put your back to the camera and swing on a swing set or go down a slide backward. Go back to the hanging florals scene and giggle and whisper to each other. Make these pictures exciting while not revealing too much information.

Whatever type of pictures you decide to post for your fall debut, make them creative and different. We’ve seen enough of the trends. Try something new or re-interpret a classic.
