With Spring fashion officially on everyone’s radar, this week we want to highlight Chicago-based designer Brittany White and her clothing line, Sweet Prima.

Sweet Prima is a leather fashion line specifically dedicated to helping women create success and thrive through fashion. The current collection is called Triple Threat, and draws on designer Brittany White’s own life, in which she strives to be a businesswoman, a student, and a creative person.

I first met Brittany during College Fashion Week and was invited to an upcoming photoshoot for the Triple Threat collection to learn more about what her company is like and get the chance to see it in action. I immediately learned that Brittany values hard work and making the most out of every opportunity, which is reflected in the pieces created for the line. The Triple Threat collection illustrates how women are able to occupy many different lifestyles at once, each one representing and highlighting different parts of her personality. Sweet Prima is dedicated to helping women express those different spaces through fashion. As Brittany says, “Sweet Prima is a determined female working to make her dreams come true with dignity and integrity. She has a special twinkle in her eye (or rather je ne sais quoi about her) that makes her special. Her approach to life makes your soul smile and cheer for her to succeed.”

So how did Sweet Prima get its name? According to Brittany, “Sweet Prima is the combination of the words Sweet and Prima Donna. Sweet has a variety of meaning. To me, sweet is pleasing to the mind or feeling, marked by gentle good humor and kindliness and delicately pleasing to the ear or eye. Prima Donna is a principal female singer in an opera or concert organization, a vain or undisciplined person who finds it difficult to work under direction or as part of a team. The combination of the two words – Sweet and Prima Donna makes Sweet Prima. A girl on a mission to success who is STRONG. FIERCE. OUTSPOKEN. DRIVEN. And SO MUCH MORE. Hello world – here she comes!”

Last month, Sweet Prima’s Triple Threat collection officially launched with a fashion show that celebrated not only the clothes but the women wearing them. As each of the diverse models showed each of the pieces, the emcee announced how each woman applied the definition of Sweet Prima to her own life. The pieces shared the spotlight with the beautiful women wearing them, which brought together the idea that Sweet Prima isn’t just a fashion line, it’s a way for women to thrive while living their lives to the fullest.
