Review: Kat Von D’s Everlasting Liquid Lipstick

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UIC chapter.

One of my favorite liquid lipsticks is Kat Von D’s Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in the color Outlaw. I have had this lip stain for a long time, so I already knew that with this certain lipstick, a lip liner is necessary. I applied a drugstore IMAN lip liner in Fire and then I filled in the rest of my lips with Kat Von D’s lip stain. This lip stain lives up to its matte expectations and dries looking perfectly, satiny smooth. I often get complimented on the brightness and intensity of this lip stain when I am out anywhere. After drying, I conducted the kiss test and this lipstick passed with a 100! The only marks on my hand were from my lip liner. This lip stain dries on your lips feeling very light, as opposed to some lipsticks that feel like a hardened layer of smudge on your lips. I use this product daily, however, it is not a product for use with food.

This lip stain comes off on cups and food and basically anywhere else that has moisture. After 4 hours with no eating, this lip stain looks the same as it did after application. It may start to feel a little sticky due to movement of lips, but it isn’t much at all. It is still a comfortable wear. However, after 8 hours with still no eating, the lip stain starts to get very sticky and your lips start sticking together slightly due to the moisture created from talking. The color is faded and the lip stain starts getting a little chunky on your lips.

Look: 10 out of 10

Moisturization: 7 out of 10 (doesn’t moisturize, but doesn’t dry out your lips. This lip stain doesn’t handle moisturization being added to it well, however)

4-hour Test: 9 out of 10

8-hour Test: 5 out of 10

Kiss Test: 10 out of 10 (the liner is all that appeared)

Feathering: Without a lip liner/when eating/drinking, this product feathers GREATLY. 3 out of 10 alone. With a lip liner, this product has no feathering whatsoever. 10 out of 10 with.

Food/Drink test: 4 out of 10

Re-application: NECESSARY (take off the lip stain completely before eating/after 6 hours and re-apply fully, as the lip stick will look chunky and won’t layer right if you re-apply with a layer already on)

Pricing: More expensive, but not too bad. ($20)

Everyday Wear?: I wear this lip stain everyday, but it still does have upkeep. If you don’t mind the removing and re-application from time to time and the pricing is within your range, then it is a great everyday wear, but if not then it is good for a couple of times a week. I recommend wearing a different product to social events, as this one won’t stay on nicely with a lot of moisture from talking/eating/drinking

OVERALL: 7 out of 10

TIPS FOR WEAR: USE A LIP LINER! I cannot stress this enough. Some products are more forgiving when a lip liner isn’t worn, but this one will not stay together by itself. I always take this one off before eating (except when I tested), since it will get ALL over your food and smear if you do not. When re-applying, it is best to remove the lip stain completely, as the lipstick will looks really chunky and unattractive if it is applied over an old layer of it. Whenever I apply this liquid lip stain, I move my lips around a lot so that I make sure to fill in every crack between my lips with the liquid, as this lipstick dries and does not move to fill in cracks after it dries. If you skip this test, whenever your lips are stretched into a smile or moved around, different areas of the lips that weren’t exposed to the liquid will be completely bare and will stand out greatly due to this product’s intense color and look.
