6 Apps That Will Make College Life Easier

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UIC chapter.

You’re balancing school, work, and a social life… all on a budget. Here are some free apps that can alleviate some stress from your life and help you be productive, organized, and save some money all at the same time.

1. Evernote

Evernote is great for taking notes and making to-do lists. There are apps available on all devices as well as a website, meaning that you can access your documents from anywhere. This helps you take notes and then access them on any device.

2. Google Drive

Have you ever written a paper, saved it on your computer, and then forgot to print it on the due date? This happens to me all the time. We have multiple locations to print on campus and you could carry around a flash drive…but you could lose that. Google Drive allows you to write your paper, as well as create spreadsheets and presentations. Like Evernote, you can access Google Drive anywhere with an Internet connection and can print from any device. So if you forget your paper, don’t stress, because it’s on your Drive.

3. Quizlet

Quizlet has a huge online community of students that are taking similar classes to the ones you are enrolled in. It is used as a study tool for upcoming exams and quizzes. If you can’t find the subject you are looking for, you can create your own study guide on Quizlet with digital flashcards that can incorporate image and audio.

4. Spotify

Spotify is a music streaming site. It is free with limitations to all users but for college students, you can get a Spotify Premium account for just $4.99 a month (50% off regular price). On Spotify there is virtually every artist and genre to listen to. It also includes pre-made playlists and I find the study playlists to be quite helpful.

5. Groupon

Groupon offers deals and discounts to local businesses and even online goods. You can get discounts on food, clothes, spa packages, concert tickets, and nearly any product you can find online.

6. UniDays

UniDays offers discounts to college students at various retailers. Sign up with your .edu email on the website and you can get discounts from stores such as Levi’s, Urban Outfitters, Asos, and more.

Erin is a Communication student at the University of Illinois at Chicago and the President and Editor-in-Chief of UIC's Her Campus chapter. On a daily basis, she can be found making excessive film references and getting overly emotional about superhero TV shows. She has a deep passion for writing, movies, music, good books, and great food, and will gladly talk your ear off about all of the above if prompted to do so.
