My Experience with Bentonite Healing Clay Mask

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UGA chapter.

Skin. Skin is something that we have all been told to take care of from the beginning of time. It is our largest organ and an outward reflection on our health and well being. In the spirit of full disclosure, I never really cared about my skin health. I’d barely do the minimum of washing your face at night. I’d forget to take off my makeup and honestly just rinse off my face in the shower.

Something happened. I am not quite sure what exactly, but it changed how I see my skin health. Sometime after I turned 21, I suddenly felt like I was about to make a cameo on Golden Girls. In my skin obsessed state, I stumbled upon a blog post about healing bentonite clay.

The Mask

After looking up popular bentonite clay brands, I settled on the Aztec Secret brand bentonite clay. It cost me a little over $6 for a pound and the shipping was free through Jet.com

I opened the clay and used the directions on the label. I put equal parts water and clay powder in a non-metal bowl and mixed the ingredients with a non-metal spoon.( Metal deactivates the clay and it becomes ineffective.) I applied a thick layer of the mask and let it sit for 15-20 minutes.

I wasn’t prepared for how it would feel. The mask actually felt like it was moving. A pulsating sensation encompassed my whole face. I was excited and honestly a little weirded out, but I took that as a sign that it is working and pulling out all the bad stuff! After about 15-20 minutes, it started to get cracks and dry up a bit. I rinsed off the mask with warm water.

Final Thoughts

I would definitely recommend getting the mask. After my first use, I have used the mask a few more times and have definitely seen a difference in my skin. I am on my way to a picture perfect complexion!

Pro Tip: Try it another time with your family. After all a family that slays together, stays together!
